Hi Steve, I have a RRA post-ban CMP rifle that I shoot in highpower and EIC matches. It has a 1:8 stainless Smith?? barrel. I've toyed with the idea of having the barrel threaded to accommodate an A2 birdcage and getting the FSB with a bayo lug on it, just because I want it to look authentic. So I have two questions: 1) will threading the barrel hinder accuracy in your experience and will the rifle still be CMP legal, and 2) does RRA do aftermarkiet 'smithing on it's own guns -- if so how much would this cost? Thanks, Sudboy |

Hi, It's a Wilson barrel. In your case, with a DCM/CMP rifle, your best bet is re-barreling to a "pre-ban" configuration if desired. Threading your barrle really isn't that big of a deal ($50 plus parts plus shipping), but putting on a different front sight housing and trying to drill the housing to match the existing pin slots is problematical, ans as a rule, have not been doing that work. As to the negative affect on accuracy, any muzzle device can have an effect on accuracy, and often negatively, compared to a straight barrel with proper crown and face. It has to do with the bullet's transition from bore to device to open air. Thanks. Steve/RRA |
