It looks like my experience is not isolated either. This post was made over in the Retro forum.
My package did have some bubble wrap in it, but it was in no way actually attached to the barrel. If I were selling these, I would use one of the triangular prism shaped boxes that are out there, wrap the barrel assembly in bubble wrap, and then put some sort of cushion or bubble wrap at both ends of the box. My only complaint with Brownells is the poor packaging of their barrels before shipping. I have had more than one come with damaged threads due to whom ever is packing just dropping the barrel ( in a plastic bag ) in the bottom of a not so sturdy box and putting a few air bags on top. At least 4 times the barrel tip was sticking out of the box when it arrived after hitting everything involved in shipping along the way. I just sent a carbine barrel back because the threads were so bad the FH would not thread onto it. The replacement came today and again ripped box and air bags. Luckily the box must have ripped out later in the trip and I could salvage the threads. They really need to work on barrel packing like other companies do. |

My 20" 1/7 A1 barrel showed up yesterday with the box in about the same condition... Luckily the barrel did not poke through or sustain any damage.
My brother is also receiving a 20" 1/7 A1 barrel today and I hope his luck is as good as mine. Edit: My brothers barrel turned out to be packaged much better than mine was. It was packaged in a long (sized to fit) box with plenty of packing material at both ends. There was no chance of the barrel poking through the end of that box. |

Those stupid plastic air filled bags are absolutely useless especially when a heavy item is being shipped. Every barrel I have ever ordered from Brownells that did not come in a tube as always been poking out of the side of the box when it arrives.
I never have that problem with corrugated cardboard packing or packing peanuts. The way that shippers handle boxes anymore it's a miracle the most stuff doesn't come out of the side of the flimsy cheap boxes that are used to ship some of the most expensive Parts you can buy from Brownells. |

Got my barrel a couple of days ago. Barrel was well packed (thank goodness), but box did not fare well. This is how it arrived.

Just a quick update, we have changed how barrels are shipped within the larger overall packaging. This will keep them less mobile within the boxes which will hopefully cut down on damage. This is a direct result of the feedback here so please keep sharing your insight. Some things can change quickly, some time a lot of time, but we are doing our best.
Thank you so much! |

I did a similar post 5-6 years ago concerning the same issues, was told the same BS apparently, thanking me for this and that only to have continued the same horrible packaging or in most cases even worse than the horrible job they did years ago.
I will add the last three shipments I've received from Brownell's looked worse than OP's, left on my porch with a "ring and run". Items appeared to be all there and no un-repairable damaged to them but some parts were bent and such and required massaging from being tossed in a box individually for a 1000 mile trip. Barrels were wrapped and boxed separately but smalls were just tossed in. I was shocked and happy they remained in the box but many items were much smaller than the hole. Appeared the delivery driver had enough sense or dumb luck to keep the hole facing up this time, as I've picked up Brownells parts from my front yard on more than one occasion over the years. They obviously don't and never will get it. A little intelligence in their packaging department is obviously deemed unnecessary in more than a few isolated instances.. |
