My Holosun 503c arrived today, and I have a few issues/concerns with it.
1) I prefer absolute co witness (but 1/3 mount is supplied), so tried my PA absolute co witness mount on it (MD-ADS mount) and it will not absolute (it's also 1/3)? Does this RDS have an oddball height to it that prevents normal mount height descriptions from being accurate with this sight? What mount will absolute with this RDS? 2) the dot moves upon even the slightest pressure/pull from the windage turret cap. This is a huge concern to me (hard to trust a zero if it moves even upon mild hand pressure). It's as if the cap is pulling on a loose turret barrel or something. So every time I try to zero it, once the cap goes on snug the dot becomes pulled a few MOA to the right (then goes back to zero once cap is removed). If you could advise me about either of these issues, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! |

Which base would be "absolute" for the HS 503C (since normal "absolute" mounts are not absolute with this RDS)? No one makes a specific one for that red dot. There are mounts for the raised HK rail that might be close. I will take some measurements when I get back in the shop and see what we can come up with |

PA and Holosun... I want to thank you again. You have both pulled through and made my exchange effortless and quick! I received my HS503c (replacement) today and all seems well with it. I did notice something different about this replacement. When the solar panel is covered it goes into a VERY dull (but usable) circle dot. My returned unit would only go to very dull (and almost unusable) DOT (only). This confirms to me that my prior unit was not quite right from the start. This also makes me understand why they call this "auto" mode.
This is what I've now found: There are 3 modes: AUTO which uses solar MODULATED (not powered) dot (in other words, it still requires battery power, but makes the most of it by dimming down as it sees fit) MANUAL mode: Unmodulated dot (in other words, will use whatever battery power you set it to) OFF: battery power is cut off, thus no dot (since BOTH other modes use battery power, which is why there is NO dot unless you have a functioning battery in it). Another note: I've heard many complain about HS bases requiring Loctite. Not my two samples of 503c. Mine were factory torqued to within an inch of their lives and required pliers to wrench them out. Not only that, they seem to already have something on the screws, much like Magpul uses, which made them gritting and tough to screw out through the entire thread length. I guess HS listed to complaints and fixed this issue (well done!). This (properly functioning unit) 503c seems like a FANTASTIC bargain with GREAT features and I'm thoroughly impressed with PA and HS's quick and professional customer service. Kudo's to both of you and thank you again! |
