Looking to get my first optic for my first AR build. Currently using folding Troy rear sight and fixed front sight post.

I've heard many good things about red dots and people have steered me towards Primary Arms as a good option that isn't nearly as expensive as EoTech or Aimpoint.

Does Primary Arms make just the one red dot? How is it compared to the expensive brands? What is the best mount for it so that I can use my irons when I want/need to.

Thanks
Paul

They have fixed base micros and removable base micros. I recommend the American Defense mount that is available in a discounted upgrade package with the removable base model. I like mine a lot. They work with the Aimpoint mounts, but the PA micro sits a little higher so you  need to get the appropriate mount for co-witnessing. I like the lower 1/3rd option, but some like absolute. Both will allow you to use folding irons.

I have a few PA micros and they are good to go. All of these happy customers aren't BSing.

Check out this link. It is our complete lineup of red dots and mount options. Take a look and post any questions. IMHO they are the best bargain red dot going but are not going to be as reliable as Aimpoint or EOTech.  We have those also.

Thanks

I looked into the cowitness thing. It says on the 1/3 lower cowitness that when you look through your irons the dot still lines up in the bottom portion, but it is in the center if you just look through your optic. That sounds nice but how does that work?

Also, someone else recommended that same mount to me. Are there any other pictures of it with the PA red dot? It looks kinda goofy on their website but maybe it's just because I'm not getting the whole picture. Thanks!!

Edit: If I plan on putting a magnifier behind it eventually do I need the cantilever mount or will it work with the American Defense one?

Thanks
Paul

What exactly do you mean by as reliable? I'm not in the military or a LEO so its not life or death but I still want one that is gonna last. I was told by many people that the PA is the only one worth buying if you don't get an EOTech or an Aimpoint

Just that. The failure rate will be lower and the shock rating will be higher when you get a optic that was designed for MiIl and LE use. Like I said ours are some of  the best value priced red dots and you will be satisfied for the use you are describing. We also sell the Vortex line of red dots that are similar in quality with a few additional features.
