I'd been looking for an inexpensive solution to mount a light to a 20" A2 that's issued to me, and your ZFH1500 worked out great! The rifle length handguard and A2 stock left me with some concerns as to whether I'd be able to reach the tailcap and still maintain a comfortable grip. I took a chance on the ZFH1500 leaving enough room for a tape switch without kinking the cable, and I got it set up with no problems. Shipping was really fast, too!

I plan on using one of these for a rifle I'm building, and was wondering if you had any pictures of the Olive Drab model next to a Magpul OD product. I've looked over elzetta.com, but can't find any. It looks lighter on your website, but that could be differences in the photography. No biggie if it doesn't match; I'll just go with black again. I just don't want to have 2 greens that "almost" match right next to each other. That's kinda like the two tones that "almost" match on a car horn to me.

Thanks again!

Edit: After reading this thread and the OP's comment about the mount not working with the Commando barrels, I thought I'd make a suggestion. Many agencies (mine included) are fielding DRMO guns as patrol rifles. Many of these are M16-A1's with pencil barrels. Options are limited on modernizing the A1 without significant cost, so inexpensive light mounts are scarce. Just wanted to mention this in case you were "on the fence" about making a model to fit other barrel profiles (or perhaps a sleeve-style adapter to modify the original to fit?).

Thanks for your business, your kind words, and your suggestions.

As for Elzetta OD Green versus Magpul OD Green, ours is a bit "greener" than theirs. Here is a photo that might help (the handgards are Cav Arms but the color is the same as Magpul):

BTW: Elzetta's Dark Earth and Magpul's Flat Dark Earth match almost perfectly.

Regarding barrel profiles, the Elzetta ZFH1500 will work with any barrel diameter/profile as long as it has an A2 front sight base (FSB).

Note: On some older barrels with a cast A1 FSB, the ZFH1500 may require shims on the gas-tube-portion of the FSB for a tight fit (This was likely the issue mentioned in the thread you cited).

Thanks for the pic! I actually saw that one but thought it was an FDE handguard because it has more brown in it compared to the mount.

Also thanks for setting me straight on the A1 compatibility. I'll have to try mine out on one of ours and see what kind of shimming may be needed.

They work on 14.5" middys too, in case anyone was wondering. I was thinking about punching out the rivet & removing the front sling swivel since I didn't plan on using it, but found out that if I slid the light all the way back in the mount (which also helped clear the comp), I can just use my index finger on either side of the swivel to activate the light. Much simpler than wiring up a tapeswitch.

Edit: Better pic of the finished product.
