Found a PSA at a local big box in their used section for $550. Contemplating pulling the trigger so to speak as I have gift cards and points that I could apply bringing the out of pocket cost to just over a c note.

Forgot to look at roll mark on upper but top rail looks to be in spec. Barrel is a mid-length CL 1:7 twist with B5 keymod hg's. Bolt looks good and properly staked. Lower is PSA marked multi-cal and internals look good. Even though the big box has it listed as used, I'm thinking it might not have ever been shot as it shows no visible wear. Only mark is a scuff on hand guard retainer.

This isn't my first AR as I've run old Bushmaster, and still have an RRA.

Just looking for opinions as they seem to vary widely on PSA quality.

$550.00 for a barely used (if at all) premium psa is a pretty good deal.

That sounds like their full Premium rifle, and that is a great price if it is lightly used.  Their Premium rifles are great guns. I have a Premium M4 from them and it has been rock solid. With good ammo I can plug steel out to 500 yds easy and it shoots 2 MOA at 100 yds just as easy, again with good ammo.

Yeah not sure if it was pieced together or a complete rifle. The "multi" marking on the receiver has me confused. Like I said overall it appears in excellent condition, but it's been in the used section since after Xmas.

I saw some of the early mid lengths had issue with gas tube size.  Anyone have an idea how to check before buying ?

The "MULTI" caliber marking is nothing to fret over. There are people out there who have some notion that you can't change the caliber of an AR-15 if the lower is marked as a particular caliber. Marking it Multi gives those people peace of mind that they can build a .22, .300 BO, or 6.5, if they desire. It also serves to silence those who might flip out if they come across someone with a 5.56 marked lower attached to a different caliber upper (range-Nazi RSO's, etc).

Up until about 10 years ago, BATFE NFA Branch would accept Form 1's for short-barreled AR's with MULTI in the caliber box, since the caliber can be changed so easily. They stopped accepting them around that time, though, saying that what was listed on the Form 1 was what the rifle was to be built into when it was first made and that you couldn't have two different calibers at the same time. Changing calibers after the rifle was made into an SBR was fine, but the Form 1 has to reflect the condition it will be when it is first built into an SBR.
