[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Help with SP1 serial number

I picked up an SP1 this weekend and was wondering exactly when it was made. Serail # is SP1 886XX.

The serial number list at Biggerhammer does go that high. But I would guess at around 1989-1990.

A call to Colt should give you the extact date. Maybe some more knowledgeable memeber can provide a date.

Yeah, I already checked Biggerhammer too. I thought Colt quit making SP1s in 1983 or somewheres thereabouts.

Colt switched over to the Sporter II sometime around 1984 or 1985. SP1's were made up until then.

Sporter II serial numbers run continuously up from the end of SP1 production into the Sporter II series, which stopped production in 1989.
