Can anyone tell me conclusively if any SP1s without forward assists were shipped with a  notched bolt carrier. I didnt think so but a friend insists his rifle is an all original SP1 with out forward assist but the bolt carrier is notched. Any help would be appreciated. I think the serial # puts the rifle in the 1970 range.

Thank you Ckts for keeping me on my toes - I guess I brain farted. However I have a few factoids to spring on you as well - see ya on the chat.......

Er, it's the bolt carrier, not the bolt.

But the answer is yes.  I've got a sporter II (all original, early 80's) with no forward assist and a notched bolt carrier, too.

Yes...I bought an SP1 in '79 that had the notched carrier and no forward assist.

You usually find the notched carriers sporadically in the early 1970’s , by about 1974 they were the norm.

Yes.
Colt sold them that way.
