I hate starting these kinds of threads...but seriously, why is it almost every other manufacturer can release a product that doesn't have tooling marks but Colt can't?

In the great scheme of things this isn't that big of a deal to me, but over the years I've owned AR's or lowers from a half dozen manufacturers and Colt is the only one that releases products with tooling marks on them on a regular basis.  This is on my new A4.

I think they have so many guns go through as well as not handling them carefully.

The best Colts I've owned finish and machining wise were 2012-2013.

Now a days if I take the grip off a Colt I will see machining marks on the tang.

Did you get a correctly marked barrel?
I haven't inspected mine as closely as you have yet but it seemed to be all good. Had the most oil I have ever seen on a new gun though.

Those handling marks comes from how the factory just dumps parts, stacks upper half, and lower half and completed firearms without any protective covers, that's normal for Colt.

Those are not tooling marks, they're handling marks of the factory, I had 7 Colt rifles and carbines since '71 and currently have 5 since from 2005, all have some sort of small marks, it's very common for Colt AR to have them.

I usually add more marks when I get my guns in and out of my safe, I just use a black aluminum touch up pen.

Colt also manufactures exponentially more weapons than civilian manufacturers, this is why you'll also find tooling marks on H&R, GM Corp. and FN M16's. They're producing a huge number of them, scratches and little dings are insignificant at best.

not that big a deal, but you still made a thread about it.

I been a member since march of 08and lurked here for 7 years before then.
Take a looong break, from here and come back back and see the same  stuff  over and over.

some of you guys know that guns are things you use, out in the world right?   that when you fire them, they even start to wear with every shot?!!  Brass might even leave a mark in the brass deflector god forbid.

Are we really still  having this same discussion  about guns meant to be used, by a company who makes combat weapons?  In 2017?

seriously though, if that kinda thing bothers you, buy  from a company that cares more about the look of the finish.  Cause Colt will likely never stop the way they make combat guns no matter how many people complain about it online.  the people who need and appreciate colt's real attributes, the years of experience in making AR15s and the unseen quality on the inside ,will still be buying them.
