Just looked at Colts web site and I didn't see a listing for the Colt LE6940P (piston driven AR). Did Colt give up on their piston ARs?
Thanks, 1981 |

It's still lsted under the LE section. I bought one a few years back when they popped uo and I love it.

Quoted: I called Colt. No more piston guns even for LE. Wonder if they will become a collectors item now? I put 100 rounds on mine and I still have the box. Not sure if I'm gonna shoot her anymore. 1981 |

| Wow......glad I picked one up before Christmas! Guy had one bnib at the local Hardware store. I went in looking for any Colt ar for my son for his christmas present. He told me "all I have is a piston gun in the back" said he took it off the rack because he couldn't sell it........needless to say I got a heck of a deal on it! |

I just received an e-mail from Arms Unlimited indicating they are on sale for $2,150.00. Not sure of that's a good price as I never was very interested in them.

Anyone know how many were made? Based on serial numbers for the civilian model my guess is around 2300. The 6940P was introduced at the worst time during one of the gun scares and Colt focused on the 6920 production only. The pipeline has been real dry on this model for no fault of its own The 6940P will definitely be a collectors item it was the ONLY civilian Colt with a REAL 16" SOCOM barrel ever released to the public that had the flats for the M203. Take the bottom of hand gaurd off your 6940P and get ready to smile, the barrel is a beast Colt was the only manufacturer to develop a cure all solution to piston gun cam pin gouging and nailed it with a patent along with the piviting piston head. Try one out they are amazing piston guns. |

Or rather people who are privy to a series of failures caused by that component, reported by the SWAT team of a major east coast municipal agency. They've loctited them and made checking them a PM item. I call bullshit Combat Jack. Oh your privy to to this secret unamed SWAT team on the east coast???! Bullshit Man up and let us know who this secret SWAT team is that keeps having the cam plate fall off their piston Colts. Again made up Bullshit. Everyone of these was red loctited from the factory i sat through the Colt presentation on the 6940P at the shot show years ago and this was made very clear ever single cam plate is red loctited and double checked. You can visually see the excess around the screw head on every one. |

It was 6946s, not piston guns, but Jack is correct that we had several rifles have the issue of the screw holding the cam plate come loose. Granted they were high round count rifles. The guys who had the issue all shoot / attend classes on their own time, so the rifles had approx. double the round count of the other rifles. I was the first to have the issue (just north of 10k rounds). Easy fix, no issues since then. No one else had it come loose enough to suffer malfunctions like I did, but about 5 other guys had the screw loose. Like Jack said, it's now a PM item, but we've had no issues since then. The 6946s have been a dream - don't recall any malfunctions outside of user error (lubrication) or bad ammo. Configuration is 10.3" barrels with Surefire socom suppressors. |

I knew it was DI guns but same issue would be present with pistons. And no the team isn't secret but it's not my place to name them. |
