I have a Colt bcg that I purchased in 1988 and the bolt is marked MPGC. Is the G a date code ? Please see pics. Thanks for your time, Curthttp://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o709/greedo408/colt005_zps562b662e.jpghttp://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/o709/greedo408/colt001_zpsc3dd4844.jpg

yes as far as I know it's a date code, but I dont know the exact meaning.
one of my colts (2000 era MT6601) is marked MPFC with a line under the F.
Then Colt stopped marking bolts that way.

Thanks man. From searching around I was fairly certain it was a date code. I was hoping that someone had found the meaning of the codes.

Thanks again, Curt

would have been nice to track down a chart with the respective codings. Interesting that the label indicates that the buyer must have class III....goes to show how old it is.

it's also interesting that the label name the M4 since it was adopted in 1994

Here's some info on Colt bolt markings from member Molon and old threads that I had in my notes.

MPC - Colt

MPCX (X = MFG LETTER CODE)

MP A C - letter "A" means month code Sep '95 (no C letter to avoid confusion), then under dash line - then over dash line - then all month code dropped

MPIC

C - Colt

C - ground down MPC with large letter "C" over the previous erased marking

MPD - Diemaco (COLT Canada now)

Here's the link for the noted old thread with bolt marking pictures.
