I bought a factory side sling mount for my 6920 (bought from specialized armament) and noticed it is loose when installed. Is it supposed to be this way? The pins are nice and tight so I don't think it will come apart but the "wobble" on the entire installed mount worried me that I bought the wrong part. This is what I ordered. http://www.specializedarmament.com/products/Sling_Swivel_Assembly_Carbine_M4_M4A1-349-0.html
Thx. |

I only have two samples of factory installed side sling mounts on my 6920 carbines, one is made in 2011 and the other in 2012, they were both snug fit but after some use they slide around but does not wobble.
There are some owners that said their side sling mounts are also loose so I would just think that it varies due to tolerances of the barrels diameters and the sling mounts. Brownells sells the same genuine Colt side sling mounts for less money, but you could really get the lowest cost from take off parts from the Equipment Exchange here at AR15.com. |

I found that you can tighten the fit of the side sling mount by OPENING the "fingers" that fit around the barrel.
This is counterintuitive. You'd think that bending the fingers closed would tighten the grip on barrel. Slightly bending the fingers open causes the fingers to grip tighter when the roll pins are installed. This also seems to prevent the swivel from loosening with use. |

I assume the one from Brownells looks to be the same as the one from Specialize Armament. Does anyone know if colt changed the 6920 barrel at all. Which barrel does the 6920 have A1? A2? The rifle is brand new 2013. Yes, the Brownells and the SAW parts are the same genuine Colt parts, the numbers on the clamp are exactly the same. The 6920 barrels are the same and had not changed since they were first produced, it have the same gas block diameter of 0.750" at the FSB, M4 government profile, 16". The gas block of 0.750" and lightweight government profile under the handguards are closer to the A2 barrel, but it have a unique M4 carbine profile at the front of the front sight base which have the notch (0.600" - 0.610") for the grenade launcher mount. |
| Those things are tough as nails... It won't pop out, I had one removed and it was quite the pain to remove and re-install. Those pins are pretty solid. As for the sling mount being installed, as far as I can remember, there is always a little bit of play. My issued M4, and my LE6921 both had the same kind of play when installed from the factory. I really don't think that you have anything to worry about. |
