Looking to replace the Rogers stock with the M4 type 2. Does Colt make their own stocks or are they manufactured somewhere else like the lowers?
Also, if anyone has any lyring around... |
|
I doubt that Colt makes stocks, grips, or handguards, they probably contract that out.
However, I think that Colt and possible FN have exclusive contracts for the M4 stock since no one else uses them. Every one else uses the Tapco stock, which some AR makers claim to make, but all of them appear to be the Tapco stock, often with their name on it. Watch out for these, I've seen them advertised as "Genuine M4 stocks". They look similar but are not the same. Here's what the Tapco looks like, note the sling swivel in a slot on the butt, while the Colt is in a hole. Note the curved web at the front, while the Colt is a straight edge: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/stock-forend-parts/rifle-stocks/sliding-butt-stock-assembly-prod4877.aspx If you want a new M4 stock, Brownell's sell them at not bad prices: They're out of stock right now but will have them soon. Or just watch or advertise on this forums Equipment Exchange, the orange button at the upper right of the screen. http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/stock-forend-parts/rifle-stocks/sliding-butt-stock-assembly-prod4877.aspx Last, Colt lowers are not made somewhere else. Major Colt components like uppers and lowers, barrels, bolts, bolt carriers, etc are made in the Colt factory. |

The links are the same but I looked up the Tapco to see the difference. Also, I should have specified on the lowers - I meant how they're forged elswhere before they get to Colt. |

Check the EE, I saw a WTT a Type 2 for a Rogers, if that fails BCM Mil-Spec M4 Stock
The only difference I could find was the thread locker on the sling loop. Colt uses some kind of red, and BCM uses some kind of blue. |

I would check the EE for a colt take off, or you could use the one Bravo Company sells. I used their stock kit on one of my builds and it is a nice mil-spec unit.
