| Clearly a fake. Markings were engraved with a rotary engraving machine. Notice the small "dimple" on each letter that is a giveaway of a rotary engraver. Colt uses roll stamps to mark their guns. I would remove the cheesy Krylon paint job and have someone anodize it for you. Is there any way for you to determine who did the work on this? |

Is that a real colt? |

I just love the fact the he engraved "M4A4" when there is no such thing.
Not only is it fake, it's incorrect. The guy couldn't even get the model right.... Also, military receivers say "Colt Defense", not "Colt industries". The only thing he got right was "Safe" "Semi" "Auto"... But even if he did get the wording right, it's a crapy attempt at proper engraving. Welcome to Bubba's hack shop.. |

Check out these pics Augee posted in this thread a few years ago: http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=394156
The first 2 are actual USGI M4 and M4A1 receivers The 3rd pic is a full auto "export" model... Things to note: -The style and quality of the engraving - "Colt Defense" and sometimes "Colt MFG.". No "Colt Industries" - Serial number that starts with a "W" |

Could that be an 80% someone finished and engraved? The black looks like spraypaint and not anodizing. Probably. Hopefully the OP didn't get ripped off and buy the thing. Best case scenario is that he made it him self and made this thread to show off. If not, he should demand his money back. |

OP.
Contact Colt. Even if they can't do anything for you (Which they won't, since it's not a Colt product ) they would really like to know about it and that there are forgeries going around. How much did you pay for it...and more importantly, why did you buy an M4 receiver marked "auto" and "us govt. property" without knowing what you were doing anyway? |

If that serial number is fake you have a much bigger problem on your hands. Call Colt and have them run the serial # which they will do. If its fake you need to turn it over to the ATF. It's not a Colt product. Not Colt's problem. It looks like someone rolled their own receiver, and had it engraved. Why would the OP need to involve the .gov? 13'er |
|
^ ^^ Why get the gov involved?
Because this fake is no different than any other product that is counterfeited. Rolling your own lower, having it engraved with whatever it totally legit. Going into production counterfeiting another company's logo/product then pimping that shit to unsuspecting folks at the local gunshow isnt cool. |
