Just picked up my beautiful new 901 today from my local FFL, after a very long 10 day wait. Purchased from an out of state seller, who very graciously offered to install a bullet button for me, to avoid having to ship the upper and lower separately to my FFL. Since I was going to need one anyway, of course I took him up on his offer.

After getting my new rifle home, I went to load my first mag, and something is not quite right. The mag doesn't seem to be retained properly, and the bullet button and the release lever are clearly way too loose. Not having a tool handy to try to tighten the button, and since a trusty gunsmith is less than 10 minutes away, I hopped back in my truck and took it into his shop. Once he removed the bullet button, he discovered that the spring was getting hung up on the mag release lever, due to the fact that the spring was clearly not of a large enough diameter to operate freely. Having not seen an LE-901-16S before, he said that a larger bullet button assembly must be needed. "Maybe the .308 is just beefier, so you need a bigger spring, etc."

When I got home I looked at Brownells and only found one type of bullet button. I called them and they suggested that I contact bulletbutton.com directly. I then contacted the nice folks at bulletbutton.com, who are all out of the shop at a show or something until next Wednesday, but who left a very pleasant and capable receptionist behind who took a very copious message, and promised me a call back late next week.

Not wanting to wait a week of course to play with my new toy, I figured that I'd just go to the source and call Colt directly. Michelle in Customer Service offered to check for me, and came back with a "we don't make a California model at this time, so we don't have any parts or advice available for you." The best she could do was to suggest that I call Delta Arsenal and look into having something custom made.

Before I go down the custom gunsmithing route, I was wondering/hoping that someone here might have some insight, advice, or meaningful suggestion about my problem.

Thanks

Seems going featureless would be the easiest solution.
Pic of the rifle?
