I looked in the Optics forum and didn't find an answer so I thought I'd try here?
I have a 6920 with an Eotech 512 sitting on the LaRue QD mount so the red dot is just above the FSB - QD Mount Took it out to the range, and sure enough, batteries were dead and I didn't have spares. Found the carry handle in my range bag, so the day wasn't lost. So, am thinking a rear BUIS is a really good idea. Now I'm trying to figure out which one will fit on the rear of the QD mount (where an optic would go) and line up with the FSB correctly. Anyone have a setup like that? Thx.. |

Wait, you had an eotech and the batteries went dead too soon? interesting. Where is Augee when you need him?
Mount the BUIS to the rear of the receiver on the upper. not the base, or mount or anything else you had on mind. If you put it on the mount and ignore all the people about to tell you not to do it, you will find it impossible to zero the thing. Best choices for BUIS in my opinion KAC troy matech LMT fixed BUIS arms 40 |

Just remember, Shawn - the same things that people say about EOTechs are also the same arguments used against 1911s. "They're not reliable enough!" "I always see them go down in classes!" ~Augee The problem with that analogy is that everyone says that about eotech's. Oh and the 1911 is an over 100 year old design and is still being used by millions. |

Ask some of the Glocknuts in the Handgun forum and they'll tell you "everyone" says the same about 1911s. Longevity - well, it will take a while before anyone's challenging the 1911 on that account.
Hey, I didn't ask to get roped in to this.

Here's my 6721 with an EOTech and LaRue QD mount which I'm running a Troy folding Battlesight mounted on the rear most position of the upper receiver rail (at position T1).
Not a Colt but similar to my LE6920 using a KAC 300m BUIS mounted on the upper receiver rail T1 position. Quoted:

If you want to use your LaRue EOTech QD mount you have to use a rear BUIS with a small mounting base like in my examples the Troy, KAC or any other similar folding BUIS and mount it at the T1 position of the upper receiver rail (not the rear of the LaRue mount). If the base of the BUIS covers either the T2 or T3 position of the receiver rail the LaRue mount won't have room on the upper rail. I have a LMT fixed rear BUIS and it is too long the LaRue mount won't fit, if I wanted to use my LMT BUIS I have to not use the LaRue mount and just mount the EOTech on the upper. The rear portion of the LaRue mount are not used to mount any BUIS, it's used to mount magnifiers and night vision optics. |

I just now put the QD mount and eotech back on the rifle. The eotech 512 has a long nose that hits the front hand guard, I can't get it and the QD mount shifted far enough forward to make room on the upper. Am going to have to rethink this, probably replace the hand guard. Appreciate the help... |
