So I've got a 6921 in the 0967XX range dated June '11, and two 6920's 1607XX September '12 and 1684XX from October '12, all Colt Defense. My question is this though, I've seen a few that are in the 180XXX range and are dated November '12, also Colt Defense, and I've seen a few that jumped around more so than that. I thought I also saw a 200,000 range, any idea why they jump around so much? Are they really putting them out that fast?

OH!! And has anyone recently (within the last year) got a Colt that wasn't Cerro Forged? I haven't seen any new Cardinal, Alcoa, Anchor Harvey, or anything other than Cerro for more than a year now, anyone know why? Note this only includes M4 uppers, not the monolithic 6940 series.

My LE6920 which I bought in April 2012 with blue label box have a S/N of 105XXX and the most recent ones I had seen with the new white label boxes already in the 240K range.

Note that there are several 6920 models that use that LE prefix the Colt's Law Enforcement Model roll mark, M4 Carbine roll mark, Magpul, SOCOM I & II, distributor special run variants, etc.

Colt ranks up there in high production capability, if they could make huge numbers for the military they could do the same with the commercial models.

My noted carbine have a Cerro forge marking on the upper and lower receivers, just in my own experience I had seen all 6920 with the same forge markings since '09 - '10.

If you have slightly more than an hour to spend, here's a recent Colt factory tour vid link last Oct. 2012.

Serial numbering is not always sequential. Hypothetically, a certain model of gun could be numbered 001001 to 050599 during one production run, and then the next run could be something like HG0001 to HG9999, and then on the next run it could be an entirely different numbering format.

Definitely NOT sequential, a buddy of mine just picked up a 6920 serial 2467XX and the date on the bag (Oct '12) is the same as my 1684XX, kind of interesting, to me at least.
