This is 2nd hand info....
I was told by a friend today that his cousin went to a local dealer and was looking for a good AR15 and seen nothing on his wall. So he asked the owner if he is getting anymore in anytime soon. The owners reply was: He had called Colt and they told him that they stopped all production on the AR15's as of now and don't know when they will resume. They did this to figure out everything that is going on and they are all out of AR's to send out for sale. I am coming here to find out if there is any truth to the info that he told my friends cousin. I am not out running around telling everyone that Colt shut down or anything like that. I just wanted to see if anyone here may have "heard" the same or something like this. Maybe they just shut down for the holidays was my thinking. I personally work for Walmart and our sporting goods manager told me that ALL AR's are now showing OUT OF STOCK in the warehouse. Usually they show in stock but all mfgs that we sell are showing out of stock as of today.
Edit to add: Mods please feel free to move if needed. I just wanted to ask the Colt guys. |
| I don't know about Colt but as far as Walmart goes they could be out totally but I would call your supplier to check. I use to order guns for our store when I worked there and their store traits didn't always match up. The bad part is that the Ar's are probably coming from a third party like Lipseys or sports south and not the Walmart warehouse. |

I haven't heard that particular story yet, but my local dealer have almost all their Colt models marked as allocated.
The only 3 models that doesn't have the allocated status are the AR6951 flattop 9mm carbine, LE6920P piston, and the M2012SA308S bolt action .308 (metal chassis with tubular forearm). Also it's all over the news that Walmart (and some other chain sporting goods stores) are pulling out all their Bushmaster AR because of the CT shootings. |
|
Glad to hear that there is ZERO truth to the story.
I would have called Colt but I heard about this lastnight after hours. The post about them not accepting anything and call back in March is interesting. I for one do not go to this one dealer as I really never had a "good feeling" about him. Thanks for the replys guys, I will share this with my friends cousin and show him that this dealer is full of it now. |
| You can call bullshit or whatever you want, Colt is suspending all civillian sales, Bushmaster is for sale and shut down, DPMS is going parts only with restrictions, Remington and S &W is stopping production of ARs, Olympic still going strong and most smaller companies. The only problems are getting forgings and parts to build with. Federal-Lake City may stop any "surplus" sales or production of 556 and 308, depends on pressure, don't beleive me, start calling. The restrictions on buying guns are not going to be as bad as the restrictions on selling-seller will be responsible, private or business. Legal, probably not, but it will take a long time in the courts to prove it. The major forging companies are taking heat, no forgings= no guns without making new suckass gun laws. I just hope everyone wakes up, for what its worth Cerebus caved in because of a California teachers union who has major investments in company.. You can give Obama credit for one thing-he has been the best gun salesman in the world. |

You must be very well connected in the industry to have all of this insider information. |

It would not surprise me if Colt cancels their civilian line, however I would imagine the LE series would still make it to the general public in limited amounts just as they used to prior to introducing newer models such as the SP 6920. |

Nothing new here other than they are probably swamped with orders and are deciding whether to add another production run of 6920s instead of 6520s, etc. ALL AR manufacturers are swamped with orders and have probably restricted sales on a variety of things until caught up. I mean you can't sale what you don't have. Lake City doesn't sale surplus, Federal sales LC products as their own and they can't kept up with the panic buying. Winchester is in the same boat. There are MANY forging companies out there capable of making receiver forgings, so it's hard to squeeze them for anything. It does take time to setup the forge though and orders for forgings probably increased 10x overnight. I don't need to call because I have enough sense to figure out what's up. The market was already dry, it is the end of hunting season, it is Christmas and then you add the CT tragedy = you can't get squat. I doubt you called anyone and are just spreading misinformation you got from 3rd hand sources. Colt has already replied on facebook saying they haven't stopped producing anything. |

To say this one more time and hope this thread goes away. We are making rifles and have no plans to stop selling to the civilian market. These are rumors and have no base in truth. We are not accepting refinishing work on pistols or new custom orders for 1911's at this time due to being too busy and we need to catch up. MAybe the customer service person on the phone did not understand your request for warranty work.

Cerberus caving is true, they want to sell out the entire Freedom Group but I never liked so much firearm production being controlled by one entity anyways. What is left of some of the manufacturers after they were acquired other then the name will remain to be seen. |

It would probably help , Brent, if you make a note in your sig line or something noting that you work for colt and are their rep here. That way people could see it plainly. Most other reps have a team membership with a company logo for an avatar. Maybe you should do that? But I guess the owners of arfcom would probably charge you more for that or expect you to pay some industry partner thing or another. |
