Anyone have issues with their SMG mags rusting!?
I just breathe near my eight and they're covered in surface rust. I'm getting pretty used to getting home and coating them in oil, let them sit a while, then scrubbing them with a light steel wool.
May bead blast them at the shop and send them off for a better finish treatment...that or move out of the tropical jungles of Florida!

maybe the FL climate is working against you. all that humidity and salt water has to be rough

I think your thread title would make an awesome entry  for something found in the urban dictionary.   like rusty trobone. "I gave her the ol' rusty SMG mag" !!

Do you have the ones with the blued finish or parkerized ?

I have both but neither of them gets rusty in AZ.

They're all blued. Metal followers.
Amazing mags...solid built like a tank and run like a Swiss watch.
I should have taken pics before cleaning them this time...really delicate finish for my environment.

My Colt OEM (Metalform) phosphate finished mags have fared well considering they've lived in Fla for 25 years.

If you have a decent quantity of them I bet you could get them parkerized for $5 each.

This seems common unfortunately.  I blasted one and Cerakoted it... it came out ok but I'm not thrilled with it.

I'm thinking about sending a bunch out for ionbond.

I just keep them bathed in oil.

I may try a black nitride finish and see how it performs.
