I picked up a Canadian 6520 that instead of having a C or CM marked A2 upper it hass a keyhole marked upper.  Anyone able to shed some light on this?

I plan on dropping the A2 upper and installing a colt Flat top upper from brownells.

Some 6520's came with upper receivers that were marked only with the Cerro forge (keyhole) marking.

I thought a  Canadian made piece will likely have a Devtek on it?

Keyhole = Cerro Forge.

Many companies, Colt included, use raw forgings from Cerro.   I imagine the same holds true for Colt Canada.  (Just a guess, as I know nothing of Colt Canada's practices.)

beats me,  doesnt appear to be modified in any way and the rest of the rifle is marked correctly.  Gonna do the Swap as soon as brownells drops off my new colt upper so it really doesnt matter that much I guess.

Someone on here sent Diemaco/Colt Canada an email asking specifically about upper receivers that they use.

I know for sure that they responded that the DK uppers are NOT Diemaco.

The stylized D is Diemaco (we know that though).

I am not 100% sure but I do believe that Diemaco said that they have used cerro forge uppers for some of their guns.

here is the CC Lower I exported recently. Exellent condition, but typical Colt politics are obvious in this lower. - FCG 170 and silly assed sear block. Bolt and BC included for reference- the hammer did NOT have typical CC marks likely because CC doesn't normally use the large FCG.

Colt Canada has never made the A2 type upper as far as I know. As a result, I suspect the actual upper was supplied by Colt USA to CC to do the build.

Your receiver doesn't have a sear block, but instead has a sear web.

You're welcome. It's a nice receiver. I love the "Made in Canada" rollmark. Things out of the ordinary like that catch my attention.

I'll second Boltgun on this comment.  All Colt Canada (nee Diemaco) FT upper receivers that have left the shop in the past, either standard M4 M1913 FT for US Gov't entities or Weaver FT for Canadian and foreign Allies, were rollmarked w/ the forging house's mark as well as w/ the stylized "D" for Diemaco.  Our issued rifles are marked w/ Cerro Forge "key hole" and the "D", but w/ that said, I have seen and currently own "D" marked FT uppers which are forged and marked by Anchor Harvey w/ the splintered "A" as well as ones by Cerro Forge w/ the "key hole".

Colt Canada is currently producing an extruded monolithic upper receiver/rail combination which is being used on exported rifles used by our Allies (read - Danish SF).  These uppers are known as the IUR (Intergrated Upper Receiver) and are rollmarked "1913" and had BAFE (Brass Aluminum Forging Ent) "square" marks in the location above the useless assist normally used for rollmarks.  On the other side of the receiver between the rail and BCG channel bulge, "Colt Canada" was marked along w/ an accompanying S/N.  This was observed in April/May - rollmarks may have changed depending on the forge which was pumping out the aluminum blocks prior to machining/anodizing.

I have never observed a "D" marked upper w/ a stamped "D"; all have had a raised forging mark.  However, I have observed "C" marked uppers w/ stamped "C", obviously done after the forging was conducted.

Through conversation w/ close contacts w/in Colt Canada, I have been told that the "D" rollmark will probably be replaced w/ something else as the "D" denotes Diemaco/Héroux-Devtek.

All Colt Canada lower receivers that leave the shop now are marked w/ "Colt" in the stylized way found on Colt - Hartford guns, but w/ a Canadian twist:  a small maple leaf above the "T" in Colt.  This marking is located on the left side/data stamped side of the lower receiver between the trigger guard/housing and the hammer/trigger pins.  Colt Canada techs still stamp the area covered by the pistol grip w/ a small stylized "D" to keep the tradition alive.  Policy from Hartford stated that no visible surface would have any "D" markings, thus the "f*ck you" stamp was added inhouse by the techs in a non-visible location.  Lowers are still marked "Made in Canada", obviously.

Lower receivers manufactured and used by our Allies (read - the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway) have the respective nations's coat of arms stamped in the left side/data stamped side of the lower on the magwell usually reserved for other information (usually the model of the rifle).  Canadian Forces rifles are maked w/ a large maple leaf, "Canadian Forces Canadiennes", due to us being a bilingual nation of both English and French, then the model of rifle/carbine (read - C7, C8A2, C8FTHB, etcetera), then the calibre "5.56mm", then the S/N of the weapon itself.  Canadain Gov't entity lowers are marked similarly, except for the "Canadian Forces Canadiennes" has been removed, leaving only the maple leaf.  Prior to being marked w/ "Colt", all receivers were marked w/ a large stylized "D" in the aforementioned area described above.

Where the hell do you buy the 6520 from? I tried to buy Surplus City last three that they had and less than 2 minutes of getting off the phone the manger bought one, just because some guy from Canada called. He thought they might be a collectable item. Then some retard over heard the phone conversation and bought the other two. So I lost out on those. I located 5 in Florida told the guy I would buy all of them, but he hasn't responded to any of my phone calls or emails. So I'm back to square one... I need to locate at least one of these because it's the closest thing I can get to a C7/C8. If you find one let me know via email or IM. I will need it shipped to a FFL dealer in Bellingham, WA.

I'm right up there w/ Reb - interested in a "Made In Canada" 6520 lower.  If anyone has a line on one, please advise via PM.

Thanks.

Interesting thread. I have a Colt Canada 6520 with a serial # circa 1000. The forge mark on the upper is from Anchor Harvey.

I forget  where it was from but some police force traded a shit ton of them in on newer  6920s or some such a year or two ago,  adn then the used CC marked were re sold for under 900 bucks if i recall

from what I understand  they were never brought here and sold commercially to civies. so all of them are second hand,   They turn up pretty regularly so just keep and eye out. a few guys here have some of them, maybe start a different thread asking to just see them, and maybe make some behind the scenes IMs so as not to  break the sites rules,   post a WTT thread in the EE as well if you have not already

Some additional information on the IUR:

http://www.casr.ca/doc-news-c8iur-rifle.htm

http://www.coltcanada.com/PDF%20Forms/CC-rev20100824_webonly.pdf

It's interesting how much CAA stuff is being used from the factory on Colt Canada stuff.

If the IUR is in fact the same forging as the 6940, that would make it a pretty substantial forging, lots of chips coming out of the CNC machine.

That's how the Danish spec the rifle out. Diemaco/Colt Canada have a bad habit of trying to reinvent the wheel. Just look at the abortion of a M203 that is issued. They were worried about cook offs. Uh lets see the US has used them in tropical and dessert condition with zero issues.
