I want to get a 6920 to compliment my '40 and '33.  It seems to just be a solid addition.  It may be a patrol rifle at some point (my '40 has a RCO on it).  I was curious about the variants that do not have a M4 barrel.  Like the 6920HB or the 6720 (basically a lw 6920, right?).

Are 6920HB's still commercially available new?

Alternatively, why don't the 6720's have an F fsb?  I do not care for the Matech sight and would likely put a Colt CH on it in the interim.  Would this cause an issue if I went that route?

Thanks for readin'.

no you can only get second hand  6920HBs

and the 6720 is not a lightweight 6920

why would a differnt BUIS matter?

you been here since 05.   do hang out in GD or AK forum all the time or somethin?

The 6920HB was a special run ordered by SAW, and has yet to be repeated. The 6720 isn't a 6920, it's a special order by Clyde Armory. It doesn't have an F marked FSB because that's how Clyde Armory ordered them, same reason they come with the Matech BUIS. For all intents and purposes the 6720 is a 6920 with a different barrel, yes. Putting a carry handle on the carbine would not be a problem.

I have a mint NIB 6920HB along with the letter. Bought it from SAW. I'll take $2200 for it which is what I paid.

I probably read several hundred posts for every one that I put up.  I'm a lurker like that.

So, two Colt guys (I see you guys in this section all the time) are telling me differing things about the 6720.  I likened it to the 6920, because it has most all the same features.  Sights are easily changed so I ignored that part.  I may just end up with a 6920, it's a fine rifle.  I'm just considering options.  I love the skinny barrel on my 6933 and I highly doubt I'll spring for a KAC MasterKey and tube launchers don't interest me.  Should I ever end up with something along those lines, the 6940 is a fine host.

And, why do F fsb's exist if it doesn't matter?

It does matter that some BUIS might not zero without the F FSB, but Colt uses a taller sight post on carbines to prevent that. I think the F FSB is just an easier solution to the problem.

I think of the 6720 as a flattop 6520 and don't associate it with the 6920 at all.

My guess about the non F marked FSB is that Colt grabbed 6520 barrels from inventory (which already have the barrel extension, gas port drilled and FSB installed) and put them on flattop upper receivers instead of A2 fixed carry handle receivers. The 6520 does not have a F marked FSB, hence the 6720 doesn't either.

OP, since you are looking to use the irons off the carry handle anyway, have you considered just picking up a 6520 and getting a gun that was built the way it should be? Don't get me wrong, I like the 6720, but if I want a flattop upper I want a M4 profile or a M16 profile instead of the 6720 and 6721 profiles.

Anyway to each his own.

If you wanted a 6920 HB, why not just get the 6721?  I assume that HB stands for "Heavy Barrel"?  If you get the 6721, you'll have the cool "AR-15 A3" roll mark on the lower receiver

The 6920HB is heavy M4 profile under the handguards and not the entire barrel. Think of a SOCOM barrel but 16" instead of 14.5".

Also the 6920HB is 1/7 twist whereas the 6721 is 1/9 twist.

It would be sweet if Colt would use the Safe/Semi marking like they did to for the older 6920's.
I remember some of our Canadian members posting pics of their 6920's during the ban era.

I have since sold this ban era 6920 but - I still have the pic saved.

Yep that's it.
Kind of unique looking too bad they were all large pin back then.
