I got a offered a new Colt LE6920 for $1,249.00 and a LE6940 for $1,359.00.  Which is the better deal and yes I do plan on mounting optics.  Is the LE6940 front sight reliable?

for a $100.00 difference basically it depends on if you want to add a rail to the 6920 eventually and if you do, do you like the rail on the 6940? A decent rail for the 6920 gonna run atleast $150-$200. Alot of people feel the rail on the 6940 is kinda wide, i dont mind it on my 6940, but when i had xtm rail covers on it i didnt like it. Now i have the larue index clips and i love it. I like the front sight on it and so far it has been plenty reliable. I like that it folds and i dont get a shadow on my acog front the front sight.

I just made the same decision you are faced with. I went with the 6920 as I want to have options on my rails and I want to be able to change them out if the need arises. YMMV.

I'm holding off until the 14.5" version comes around.  I can't remember what the model number is supposed to be, posssibly the 6943.  Maybe the barrel wrench will be here too, LOL.

Why don't you cut the barrel down to a 14.5"?

(1) I'm in no huge hurry and (2) I'm not a real big fan of cutting down Colt barrels.  The markings are up front on the top of the barrel and when you cut into it you're cutting back partially into those markings.  IMHO it would look bogus, but to each his own.

ETA:  Some people don't like pinning FH's on the barrels to make the 14.5" long enough to be non-NFA.  I don't mind that, which is what i would do with the 6943 (?) when I can get my grubby little hands on one, but I won't cut the barrel.  Like I said, to each his own.

I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of your 6940 with the TA31F-G.

Why did you change out the UDE?

You can beat those prices by $150 if you shop around a little.

I've had a couple LE6920's over the years but sold them forf my currrent all time favorite Colt the LE6940. Here are a couple pics of mine with a TA31RCOM4 I wouldn't trade it for ANY other AR out there.... except maybe a full auto M4  but that's really not an option.

At those prices, I'd say the 6940 is the better deal.

I like my 6940 I usually keep the front sight up. I have an Aimpoint Comp M4 on it and I swapped out the ACS for a CTR.  I would go with the 6940 at those prices, but either would be great.

I'd look around. I picked up my 6920 for $1000.00 just a week ago!

you are going to be waiting a long damn time

they only have plans for the 11.5 inch barrel to be made. not a 14.5

the 6940 is the better deal OP. I have seen 6920s for under 1000 lately.   for that price get the 6940. and you already have a rail  you will probably want to add to the 6920 anyway , so that would be  250-300 more for another aftermarket rail, then  pay some one to install it for you if its a FF rail and you dont have the tools and knowledge to do it or a friend that does

I'll probably get the 11.5" when it comes out and I'll just have to be patient for the 14.5".   No problems.

I am looking on installing a 14.5" Colt Barrel.  Will it be compatible with the front sight post?  Also what flash suppressor should I put on there?  I might want to get a silencer later on.

You guys have me thinking about getting one of these, but I'm not finding them at the prices I think you are referring to ($1,200-$1,250).  Where did you see them at this price?  I'm debating about a 6721 too.  I kind of like the idea of the 6940 upper on the 6721 (I like the roll mark) lower with a SOPMOD.

You will not be able to take a Colt (or any other std AR) 14.5 barrel and install it on the LE6940.

The barrel extension and barrel nut are a complete new design, not compatible with the previous barrels.

Dam, gun prices have dropped! Awesome. I paid $1175 for mine about a year ago and everyone was screamin what a deal that was! Not to mention DD's on gunbroker for $935 shipped. Its a good time to be a gun nut!!!!

Heres that mean bitch:

That said, I am saving my dough for the new DD 6.8 thats supposed to be out next month. But 6920's for a grand. No better deal for a KISS rifle.

LE6940 16" Barrel
LE6943 11.5" Barrel
LE6944 14.5" Barrel
LE6945CQB 10.3" Barrel

Those are the numbers but you're right, when they will be available is the question.

My good friend has the 6920 and I have the 6940 we purchased them within a month of each other and we both agree the 6940 feels much better to shoot for some minor reasons but it is noticeable. I have an ACS stock on mine and he has the CTR on his. The ACS helps counter the mono rail on the 6940.

Go with 6940 you will love it.
