I love the idea of a flat top upper with that barrel. it seems like it cnat be beat for a KISS/simple carry carbine for light work.
I dont get the magpul forearms though. they are kinda ugly to me. AM I missing something? do they feel like tits or somthing? Even for a kiss gun I like rails better. I guess I just cant give something new a try, too old school I suppose. But I tihnk your guns is fantastic |

Nice carbine, but you consider that KISS? ![]() looks pretty KISS to me. hell only a fool would not have optics for a gun he thought he might fight with. irons are tough, but I tihnk the kISS idea has to evolve like everything else. and the re dot can be seen at night when irons cant |

I know what you mean. but I always think of your idea as "stock" KISS to me is a simple rifle with only what you need to fight with. nothing more. no lasers, no extra lights or battery carrying stuff. etc etc.. maybe I am the one that is wrong |

I wish Colt made a 6520 with A3 top, It would be the ultimate. I like yours its nice. For me I would just leave it with the stock Colt furniture. I think 6520 A3 with just an LMT BUIS would be very light weight, I would love to see that. agreed. a 6940 with that barrel would be delicious.... |

LOL...thanks for the comments and commentary guys. I specifically stated that it was my interpretation of a KISS carbine as this topic always evokes many opinions on what KISS should be. In my opinion all carbines should have a good tactical sling and weapon light whether it is KISS or not. Additionally, the T-1 offers much better target acquisition than irons with minimum weight increase; IMHO the weight-to-benefits ratio leans toward the T-1.
As far as the Moe handguards are concerned; you should try them before discounting them as they are incredibly ergonomic and offer a nice hand hold. I am slowly realizing that I dont care for forward grips which is why half of my carbines dont have them and the ones that do have stubbies. The upper handguard on the Moe is also designed with an angle so when lights are mounted they are less obtrusive and offer a much more natural handhold position when activiting the rocker switch The Moe hand grip is also slowly growing on me as I have historically preferred the Tango Down. The Moe/CTR buttstock is a no-brainer in comparison to the M4 waffle style stock for many obvious reasons including integrated buttpad etc. This configuration may certainly not be for everyone however I am really diggin' it and the only change I am considering is to add a forward sling mount to the rear portion of the handguard rail in order to mimmick what I am most used to. Keep the discussion going guys! Cheers |

after giving the idea a little more thinking, Buddy, what do you think of a fixed short stock on the rifle? Like that sully or the other types?
seems like no one really lets the stock on a M4 all the way out anyway. and the rugged fixed short A2 stock would be more robust. and no one can argue its more complicated, I dont know if it has storage though.. I am thinking same upper. you have, sully fixed stock, Light, TD grip ( I still like it best) BUIS ( KAC is my choice) and a rail. I cant decide on a rail so maybe no rail. just the older CAR handgards. I just cant let go of a Rail though. just too much use in them..
I also thought about barrel length and twist. Since I am day dreaming, any one have an idea combo for that? |
|
The Sully stock is no doubt good KISS choice and I feel it was a great alternative to a collapsebale stock during the 94 ban era however it does not offer the versatility of a 4 to 6 position stock. For instance, the collapseable stock will offer adjustment to accomodate general body size (large, medium or small), eye relief (optics-long or short ), gear load-out (chest rig, plate carrier, winter coat etc.) and shooting position (prone, bench or standing). Now that I think about it, the Magpul UBR when fully collapsed kinda has the Sully profile.

ok I will throw this in, thinking a 6940 with 11.5 Gov barrel. That way you can have your rails Shawn. I here the 6940 is lighter than the 6920 and with 11.5 barrel and no other frills that makes a light rifle. My kiss for now. Not sure what to do with it. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn40/dunklarsen/IMG_0460.jpg I agree with the 11.5" barrel on the 6940 however since we are dreaming then I would really like to see a 6941 (fixed FSB) with an 11.5" barrel. That would be my first factory SBR BTW, nice 6920; they look great in standard dress. Cheers |

Better idea lets just call Ken at SAW and do a group buy. Im sure he will put together some 6520 with A3 uppers if the numbers are right, maybe with some limited addition letterhead. Shawn can get his with a URX instaulled. My credit card will hate you, but I would be in. As I posted in another thread, Colt wouldn't be able to make enough of those guns to sell. It truly is a perfect lightweight setup. BTW, I totally agree that is KISS. Lightweight, small red dot and a light. Everything you need in a fighting carbine, nothing you don't. |

I have also considered sending the upper to ADCO and having them chop to 14.7" and permamnently attaching the A2 FH to get as light and low-profile as possible however I will prolly forgo the briss and just keep at 16". OP's gun looks great, but this is my idea of KISS: http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk64/drfcolt/m16a101.jpg +1. Especially a mint condition.. what is that a 614? Pretty bad ass! ETA: Actually that has a forward assist, must be your standard M16A1 rifle? Either way.. pretty sweet. |

yeah 11.5 "6941" sounds great! I would have to get one too, that sounds great. I agree, but I would only get the upper assembly and slap it on my M16A1 lower. mimimimim , mimi imim "my M16 lower" mimimim ![]() That's funny cuz I felt that Ken copied my H-bar "operator" idea http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y198/buddyhoohaw/6721/6721-a.jpg As you can see I once had my 6721 in a similar configuration (starting in 2005 with a 12" DD rail then switching to a 9" rail in 2006). I prefer the fixed FSB on my Colts and I will have my cookie now Cheers wow, that is a great looking rifle. Ahhhhh its Colt madness and Im infected , muuuuussst haaaave morrrrre Colts.

I like it (except for the Magpul forearm). I have to agree. I have not tried them either but I like the ovals. I might put some Cav. Arms coyote M4 ovals on it. + I'd like to put a colt side sling on it. I like the whole Magpul theme though. Here's my |

I like it (except for the Magpul forearm). Have you tried them? I actually like how they feel, they are flatter on the bottom, kinda like the old triangular handguards that also feel wonderful in my hands. Haven't tried them but I would have no use for them. If I want plastic I go with M4 guards, if I want to mount stuff I don't mind spending extra for aluminum rails. Take that 6520 with an A3 upper. Throw a SOPMOD and Tango down battle grip on it. Keep the T1 on there but add a Troy rear BIUS and a set of M4 dual heatshield guards and I would call that an ideal gun for me. |

It is actually a side sling mount designed to work with both .750 & .625 diameter barrels although it was kinda loose on the .625 so I removed it. Cheers |
