Do the 6920, 6921, and 6933 use the same block of serial numbers. For example, the models mentioned all start with LE0XXXXX. After seeing these models over the past few years the number only seems to grow. The current 6920's are up to somewhere around LE049XXX, plus.
Second non related question since your reading. Of these models some have keyhole (I think Cerro) uppers with a "C". Is the "C" raised, stamped in, or are both correct? |

Not sure if there are specific blocks assigned to LE0xxxxx for different models, off the top of my head, however, I suspect they do, and as you said, the numbers will just continue to go higher.
As for the "C" marking, both the stamped and raised are correct, most recent production receivers I've seen are stamped, while older production was raised. There has been speculation that the reason for this is that Colt has begun buying receivers originally intended for another contract from the forging shops, but I haven't seen any documentation of this, so I cannot verify it. Either way, it is correct whether stamped or raised, and as far as I can tell, there is no difference in quality. HTH, ~Augee |

Today I had my hands on a brand new 6920 that (by barrel date of 01/09) was made last month. It had a raised "C" and a raised square forging mark. It did not have .155" FCG pins. Actually I had my hands on 2 of them, both had barrel dates of 01/09. One was LE047XXX and the other was LE049XXX. Thats 2000 or more in a month. I have a 6921 that has a stamped "C" with raised keyhole serial range LE029XXX from a few years back. My MT6400C before that had a raised "C" and a raised "AF" serial MTM401019.
Shawn the indented "C's" I have seen are definately stamped, not engraved, and its over the finish on the upper, not before. It appears to be the same "C" that is used on the bolt carriers. It has distinct arch. It sounds weird but Im trying to understand the raised vs stamped "C" and what forging was used at the point whether it was raised or stamped. Seems no pattern. Reason I ask the serial number question is because it would only make sense that my 6921 from years back is in the LE029XXX range and last month we were at LE049XXX, so they must be running them all together (6920, 6921, and 6933). We moved 20000 in a few years. Now if the 6940 is going to use the same lower as a 6920 "Colts Law Enforcement Carbine" stamp, then will the serial number run with the flow? Or start at LE050000? The 6921 pictured in the topic "Cant wait for my 6920" is LE041483. Had to be made a few months ago. Has anyone thought of creating a "born on date" file for us to track rifles when buying from WTS ads? That is if they are kept NIB (uppers not swapped) and the seller is honest. Or to figure out when a lower only is being sold to date it by serial. I know if you call Colt they will tell you, but with every other Colt thing here, like BiggerHammer's site, it is nice for reference. Just a thought. |

For those with access to the Archive Search, one of the legends of Colt history around here, "Ekie" did just that. Someone ought to find that cat to find out how his Colt lineage writings are coming. Colt 6920 Database w/serial numbers Colt 6721 Database w/serial numbers and Colt SP1 Database w/serial numbers, just to name a few BTW: I have Colt 6920's, 6933's and 6921's with both raised and stamped C markings, and SN's ranging from LE018xxxxx to LE04xxxx Interesting stuff |
