Ok y'all need to understand how much this gun means to me and I need expert guidance. ASAP

What did I do wrong and what should I check?

Understand, the entire universe is out of alignment until i can get this figured out.

1911's won't allow the safety to go on unless the hammer is cocked back.

Ok I am thinking of remaining calm. For now. Until I can get a gun guru to look at it.
It seems to me the safety could go on cocked or not. Or is that when there is a mag in the gun?

It has a double safety on it. One top released with the thumb
and a grip safety.
It is the one on the top of the gun that won't set.
Just making sure. I know I am sounding stupid BUT I am rather new to this.
And a female...hence the absolute panic.
I LOVE MY GUN...almost as much as my kids. Comes in a close second.

If it's a Series 80 pistol, there are three safeties: an internal firing pin safety; a grip safety; and a thumb safety.  The thumb safety doesn't engage unless the hammer is cocked.

Let's see some pics of the pistol!!!

If I understand correctly, when you have an empty mag in the gun, and pull the slide back, it stays back?  If it does, that is normal.  Maybe if you try with no mag it should just slide closed.  Hope that makes since.

Try one of the free photo servers. . . .   If the magazine is empty and in the pistol when you rack the slide, the slide stop will engage and lock the slide back.

Whats the mad face about?  I don't understand.
Double action. There should be slight click when the trigger resets.
I loaded it and put  a round in last night.
Took it apart one more time and methodically put it back together.
I think there is something wrong with the slide pin?
Dunno.
Will takse some close ups for you all.

I think Double fire referred to a double post on the board.

1911s, with the exception of Para-Ordnance LDAs are Single Action pistols.

Are you saying that the slide locks back with a round in the magazine or with an empty magazine.  Because if it's with an empty magazine, that is normal.  The follower in the magazine pushes up the slide stop to lock the slide back.  It operates much in the way that the magazine of an AR-15 pushes up the bolt catch to lock it to the rear.
