The sole source contract for M4/M4A1 Carbines is till 2008 or 2011? I have recently heard both dates, are they two seperate dates for two seperate contracts? Or does it refer to the two contracts, One being the Carbines and one being parts? or is it neither. Thanks

Best bet is to search for and email a member here  - dewatters

He is the man when it comes to defense contracts

I understood the M4 to run through 2009, and was recently extended through 2011. But again dewatters is the source

Here is his website---> The Gun Zone

According to Colt's SEC filing, the sole-source agreement for the M4 runs out on June 30, 2009.  Any time after that, the US government can dole out the M4 TDP and solicit bids from other companies.

The ordering period for the current DOD contract, W52H09-04-D-0086, will run out September 30, 2007.  It will be interesting to see how long the DOD will run any follow-up contract.

FWIW: The Gun Zone belongs to Dean Speir.  He kindly hosts my articles there.
