| Has Colt been bought out by GD recently? I have seen it several times on the forum but not articles or evidence of it... |
|
GD purchased the rights to the 416 so who knows, maybe they are going after the DOD small arms market. Wouldn't suprise me. Everybody knows that the M-16/M-4 days are numbered and nobody is really happy with the M-9. The SCAR rifle looks great but I have heard ugly rumors that SOCOM is just going to buy the minimum spec'd on the contract and then rebid it bc they didn't get what they wanted... Who knows what's true and what's rumor anymore... |
Don't you mean they purchased the rights to the XM8? I seem to recall General Dynamics buying the the XM8, but not the HK 416 |
|
If they have filed the paperwork necessary to purchase all or part of Colt, I think it is a very good thing Colt is suffering from a lack of innovation and R/D, and has been overshadowed by German owned HK, and Belgian FN. We MUST have a US owned leader in military small arms, whether that is Colt or someone else. Maybe GD is pre-empting a move by one of the other 2 (and doing so with a nod/wink/nudge from the Pentagon). |
The ATF would love that... Um... this here form says F-16 on it... Are you sure you didn't mean M-16? Aaah.. No, we meant the plane, not the rifle.
|
Not surprising. If it is true, they're not going to acknowledge until it's a done deal. |
I hadn't heard that. Are there any details about that online? |
To be honest I haven't looked. While I won't say my source is on the inside he is definitely in the loop. TIFWIW |
I believe you, but General Dynamics - or any public US company must make filings with te SEC and other entities to "buy" any company I have checked the GD website and there are many filings -none of them for HK, or HK USA, or Colt Doesn't mean they wont be there, but they aren't there yet. |
Probably a silly question. Wouldn't HK USA be a subsidiary of HK Germany? If that is true, how could one of the two be owned by someone else? |

Interesting rumor: michaelbane.blogspot.com/2006/02/colt-sold-industry-roiling-before-shot.html Not about GD but about commercial Colt. I'm mostly interested in their handguns. According to the above rumor blog thing, the impacts could potentially be significant on their pistol production. I'd like to see the possiblities and likelyhood discussed more. I'd like to see it discussed at 1911forum.com 'cause they seem to get/know info on Colt pistols (one guy just toured the plant and the Colt Marketing Director posts there), but a JBT mod named dsk keeps locking all related posts 'cause he doesn't want to believe it.

| Interesting. I will say it is quite weird that my local fun shop who had no problems getting me 9 Colt LEO carbines [6920, 6721, 6520, 9mm] after the ban has not been able to get any in in the last few months. They did get some 1911s and SAAs but no ARs. I have seen NO ARs from Colt there, whether from the civi side or the LEO side up for sale there. I do know they are trying as they sell pretty good even tho they upped the price they are asking. [trust me, I got mine well below what I saw them selling for] |
I asked them. Said it was just a rumor, and there is no truth behind it. No plans in place for any pending sale, either for Colt's Mfg, or Colt's Defense. |
I also asked them at the SHOT SHOW and they were as surprised as we were by the rumors. They absolutely confirmed they were rumors and no truth to any sale of Colt. |
| I went to a local shop today and finally held a 6920. I've been waiting for mine since November 3, 2005. Well, the 6920 was sweet as hell! But they wanted $2100 for it. Reason: "Colt sold to General Dynamics the other day so we don't know when we are going to get more 6920's" If its true and they did sell I imagine all Colt AR prices are going to skyrocket like the one I saw. |
OK. That's it. From now on, my default setting with gunshop employees is that they are f---ing morons who know very little but talk a lot. |
| LMAO! Hey, he was the owner! Don't down play it by calling him an employee! Anyways, whats the status of this whole ordeal, cuz it's been 4 months since I paid for my 6920 and I haven't heard a word from the shop i got it from. Did they sell? Are they going to? Are they not? Are other people getting 6920's just fine? Or is it my shop thats holding me back? |
|
Over the past month or two, the number of dealers in the EE selling Colts has dropped to 0, except for a couple dealers with some 6450s. Looking at the web, the only dealer I could find with stock on 6920s was Specialized Armament, even then they only had 3. No 6520s or 6721s. Looks like stock is in short supply again for some reason. |
Colt usually builds Military rifles in the 1st and 3rd Quarters, There will be new rifles hitting the shelves in late April |
dp....... If the rumors are true, the LE weapons will be available in late summer early fall, including the 10-series Plus, with announcement on gov't related web sites of very big Colt M4 orders....they may well be going 24/7 on those, and only devoting a small part of the production capacity to "other stuff" Maybe crsbar can chime in, but it would seem resources are to the M4. re: your 6920, depends on who you gave your money to. I doubt they are holding back. There just aren't any out there in any numbers. But seemingly overnight, they can show up I would hold tight and hope it ships soon. You may want to shop around for another source though. 4 months is a long time. Reminds me of 2003 when a beater Sporter lower was selling for $1,400 |
