I know this is the wrong place to ask this dumb question...but I couldn't think of a better place to ask it...so...here goes...

I've got the old "Colt itch", again...this time I'm itching for a new 1911...what do you Colt fans think of the current Colt Gold Cup Trophy?  Worth the money...or would the money be better spent on a Kimber/Springfield Loaded Government, or other similarly priced 1911 pistol?  Be honest, please...and don't bother "Colt-bashing"...I couldn't care less of how much any of you hate Colt...I would like honest ratings of the current production pistols...
Thanks, in advance for your constructive comments.....

post this in the pistol section under 1911.

I have not seen current colt production 1911's, but my 80 series enhanced model is verry loose.

I would personally look for an 70 series used gold cup, before I would buy another 80 series.

I had one (gift from brother, then he took it back), I had a blue with Eliason sights. Very accurate, good trigger. Slide to frame was average (little loose, but not horrible) but barrel fit was very good. No reliability issues at all.

Advantages of the Gold Cup: Wide Trigger (no one else has one) The rest is negligible (the enhanced sear geometry, lighter mainspring, adjustable sights, can be duplicated easily.)

I wouldn't be afraid of owning one if I were you, but it depends on your expectations.

The blued model still has the Eliason site with the lame roll pin holding it attached. The stainless Gold Trophy has a more stable sight attached. I like the trigger pulls, but I think you can do better with something else. Have you looked at the more expensive Colt Gunsite Pistol. More money, but it looks real nice and more combat oriented and less target. Very limited availability. Perhaps better resale value as well.

Why would you expect Colt bashing here? Other than the random intruder from the nether world, we are all one on the page Colt.

If you want a target model, the Special Combat Government's I've seen have all been great.

The wide trigger is neat though. :)
