I have two Colt Blue labels with the sear block and small pivot pin hole. I have been looking at upgrading the trigger, maybe a Jewel, since I would rather deal with removing the sear block. How can I determine what size trigger pins I have? Is it safe to assume that large pivot pin=large trigger pins and vise versa? Anyone have experience with the Jewel or any other trigger that will fit with the sear block? |

I don't like to ASS-U-ME but you could check the size of the pins if you have a micrometer or a caliper. If you don't have these instruments you could use standard drill bits. The small pin size is 0.154" DIA. use drill #23 (.154" DIA) or #24 (.152" DIA) use the smooth end. The large pin size is 0.170" DIA use drill #19 (.166") or #18 (.1695"). I used to have a Colt blue label without sear block four years ago but I don't remember the pin size. I currently have a AR6721 LE tactical carbine and a post ban Match Target HBAR and they are both 0.170" DIA FCG large pins and small 0.250 DIA pivot pins. |
No, no, no. Not at all. The general rule of thumb is: Large pivot pin - standard (small) fire control pins Small (standard) pivot pin - large fcp's Colt did release some semi-auto rifles with the standard sized pivot pins and fire control pins. But it was only a few hundred and are rather scarce. I've never heard of a Colt using the large pivot pin and large fcp's. But that doesn't mean a few didn't slip out. |

I've never heard of a Colt using the large pivot pin and large fcp's. But that doesn't mean a few didn't slip out. Bumblebee_bob know it was coming. I have a large hole colt for both the push pin and the FCP. It is a slab side colt it is an Hbar from like 89 or 90 The serial number is MH0242XX. To answer one of Scotts question the gun had a compuss Lake triger(IE Bushmaster) in it, Bushmaster origanial removed the sear block to put there triger in. So I would say the jewel will have to have the sear block removed, just a guess thought naver done it myself. I hope my Colt LE gun does not require the block to be removed, I just ordered a rock river triger for it. just my thoughts Gary |
You're right about that! In all the years we've been discussing here, your rifle is the first one I've heard of that is all large pin. Is your rifle marked "AR15A2" or "Sporter Match HBAR"? I was thinking the MH serial number series was the blue label Sporter Match rifles. I would also guess it was a later one. My Sporter Match HBAR is a slabside also. But it has an SP serial number and the large pivot/standard fire control pins. I bought it new in June 1990. Only about a month or two after Colt released the "new, non-AR marked" rifles. |
