I own a Colt LE6920 NIB since May 2005..unfired..and I have noticed handguard wiggle (from day one) of about 1/8 inch from side to side..when I hold front guard and twist handgrip..Is this normal?? and anyone else experienced this on a new Colt carbine..It has the original Colt double shield handguards..I have
removed the handguards and saw nothing unusual.. reinstalled them but wiggle is still there..Any suggestions/opinions on how to remedy this or is this something I must just ignore and live with..Seems for the price paid for firearm there would be a tighter fit..Any comments welcome..Thanks!!

kezeli,
Don't frett a little rotation is fine, the gas tube will limit rotation anyway. Just put a few thousand rounds threw it and have fun.

Do me a favor...measure the overall length of your rifle with the stock extended/contracted.
I think Colt's dimension on their webpage is too short...Let me know okay ???

JMR..thanks for your reply...here are the measurement dimensions you asked me for:
Contracted (completed closed)=31 7/8 Inches    Extended (fully open)=35 1/8 Inches
Hope this helps and is the info you seek...back to handguard wiggle..I realize that this is will
not impair the operation nor function of the firearm..but was curious if anyone else had noticed
this anomalyhcharges..more comments/advice forthcoming I hope...Happy & safe Shooting!!

A little rotational movement is normal. All three of my uppers have some movement. Some more than others.

It's normal.

Thanks for the measurements....

Some handguard rotation is OK, if it's loose at the delta ring that's more of a problem but easily fixed.  The guard supports specs can vary so they will fit tighter/looser over the barrel, I wouldn't perceive it as a problem. Colt makes fine weapons worthy of service to our country and they do stand behind them.

The guards on my new 9mm AR6450 actually rotated after 200 rounds. It's an easy fix just tighten the barrel nut. They came loose because the 9mm is blowack action so there isn't gas tube to act like a lock washer for the barrel nut. I've had some rifles where the guards are very tight and others that had some slight rotation to them. In your case the gas tube will keep everything in check....you'll be OK.

You bought a quality rifle, go sight is in and let loose some ordnance.

Take the hand guards off and put paper on the demples that fit around the barrel nut.  That'll tighten 'em right up!

Just duct tape them toghter, as long as it functions right

It's your rifle's way of saying "get me some after-market rails!"

A little wiggle is normal. If you want to get rid of it or lessen it, buy several new sets of handguards and start swapping them. Theres a good chance you will find one in the group that fits somewhat better if not alot better. This may sound strange but it has worked for me. Its really worth the effort & cost if the wiggle bothers you.

I agree. I have two 6400 uppers sent to ADCO for work. They originally had the slight wiggle. I took off the handguards before they went out. When the uppers came back, I accidentally put each hg set on the "wrong" upper. Both wiggle problem went away. Search me!

Many Thanks all you guys..for your advice & suggestions..much appreciated..I realize that
the "wiggle" will not affect the operation & function of the firearm but was just a minor
aggravation for a new firearm after all the money spent...will try some or all of the suggestions
and as usual this a great forum & knowledge source...Happy & Safe shooting to all of you!!
