Recently purchased a Colt LE6920...can anyone please advise and/or tell me a way to
determine the manufacturing date of my Colt...Yes I have looked at the Colt website
and their $100.00 charge for a "history of your Colt firearm" but surely there is another
way or source to determine this..Many thanks for any guidance or info..

Usually by the date printed on the bag the gun came packaged in. Look very carefully and you will see a month and year. That usually gives an idea when it was mfg.
BTW, weren't you the one I exchanged emails with sometime back about you looking for an LE6920 and I recommended Clyde's? If so, how long were you on the list till you received one?

The plastic "birth bag" that your Colt came in has a date code that will tell you Kezeli. Also, if you remove the handguards there is a date code on the barrel to tell you when the barrel was actually made

The "birth bag" is the plastic bag that the rifle was in when you opened the box. Somewhere on the bag itself you'll see a black stamp with a couple of long numbers and the date code. Here's the bag for my LE6920:

Oddly enough my birth bag is dated 09/04, yet the barrel itself is marked 11/04. Go figure

ETA: Doh! Cleophus beat me!!

Thanks for your reply and info...I don't recall  corresponding with you about the LE6920..however
I did purchase mine from Clyde's Armory in Athens/Bogart, Ga..as I live about a three hour
drive from their establishment and drove over and picked up my NIB Colt on May 19th...Nice
people to deal with..My waiting time on their list was two months..seemed endless!!

Thanks C_Jan for the info..checked Birth Bag and it has stamped on it the following info:
MIL-DTL-117H T-IIC-CS-II and next line down reads MIL-PRF-22191-D T-II CII and below that:
either EDCO or FDCO (first letter is not clear) then APR 03...which I assumes means April 2003
as the mfg. date..It seems strange that they would hold a firearm for two years before shipping
it to a customer or dealer??? since I picked mine up May 19, 2005..any idea as to what all the
other numbers & symbols mean?? Will try and remove handguards next few days and see
what barrel is stamped with..Greatly appreciate the info..and this is a great forum!! Happy
Shooting to You...

I think that is April 05.  Mine initially looked like April 03, but on closer examination it was just a poorly marked 05, with the 5 missing enough ink to look like a 3.  Mine came with the M-16 carrier, and I doubt any 03 made Colt had that.  I think a whole batch of April 05 guns went out, Clyde's caught up on their back log quite suddenly.

Got mine from Clyde's, good people to deal with.

Thanks DrewH for reply & comments..I suspected as much also..but put a 5X magnifying glass
on the Apr 03..and it still looks like 03 to me...and I also thought it certainly must be a
convoluted/distorted number "5"..but still can't be absolutely sure...I agree Clyde's Armory is a great
business to deal with..very helpful and knowledgeable!! Out of curosity how long ago did you
obtain your Colt LE6920 from them and how long were you on their waiting list before delivery??hanksh.gif

Kezeli,

I picked up mine last week at my dealer.  I waited about two months in the end, less than I thought I would.  I went on vacation and wasn't able to shoot it right way, but I hope to take it to the range tomorrow.

Colt must be catching up. The bag for my AR6450 was stamped 04/05 as was stamped on the barrel.

Thanks CJan_NH for info on barrel date stamp..I removed the handguards from my Colt LE6920 over
the weekend and found just behind front sight on bottom of barrel stamped 03/05 so I
will assume that is barrel mfg. date but also up next to the handguard slipring almost under
the gas port pipe there is a "0"(zero?) or either a "O" as in (Oscar) stamped on the barrel
also...You have any idea what this indicates or means?? The birthbag date seems to be
APR 05..although the five ink stamp looks more like a 03...but some of the the other guys
that replied believe it is truly 05 with some missing ink on the number five...Many thanks
and appreciate your advice and help...A great forum and Happy Shooting to All

The "O" is the chrome vendors mark, as required by the US Mil Spec,
Meaning the company that did the barrel chrome lining marks the barrel as such

My 6450 barrel is dated 04/05 and has the O marking as well.
