Hello All,

I am getting ready to purchase a Colt MT6400C to run in a carbine class.

Are there any quality control or any other potential problems that I should know about this model? I plan to use Labelle magazines.

Does this model have the appropriate barrel twist for 75 gr. 5.56 ammo?

Thank you very much.

Hello! Recently my 6400C completed it's first carbine class. It ran flawlessly throughout the course. Any quality magazine (like your LaBelles) will work fine and drop free in your 6400C.

The 6400C has a 1/7ROT barrel, which is precisely what is needed for heavier 75gr ammunition.

Here's a pic of mine:

The MT6400C is an excellent rifle. However, there is one thing to check.  Several of us have had our muzzle brake fly off during firing.  Early MT6400C used 2 roll pins to hold it on. Later models use solid pins (I believe they were solid because I never returned mine back to Colt to reattach the brake).  The rifle still handles great without the brake & it's considerably more quiet to shoot.

That's a plus in my book. I hate muzzle brakes. The brake is coming off as soon as I get it home.

I would replace it with something though.  I had an early production 6400 and my MB shot off as well.  I recently sent it back to the factory and they fixed it with solid pins.  Should work like a charm now.  But I did notice a considerable difference between the rifle firing WITH a MB and WITHOUT a MB.  WITH a MB the carbine is very sweet - it might be "ugly" to some, and it is noisy, but it is effective.  You hardly notice the muzzle climb or kick.  WITHOUT the MB you will notice the muzzle start to climb, and with rapid fire it will be more difficult to hold a bead on a target.

I'm hoping the AWB will sunset so I can get a more "traditional" MB, but if it doesn't, I'll at least know the one on there now is effective.
