Hello all, I know that Colt SP1s are labelled AR15, and that Sporter IIs are rollmarked AR15A2. I've heard that about 134 R6721s made it out the door before the ban and they were marked AR15A3 Tactical Carbine. My question is this, are there any current models (say MT6731) roll marked AR15A3? or is the AR15 rollmark a thing of the past? Thanks in advance for your help, Mark Papineau Loveland, CO |

There are no current Colt rifles rollmarked "AR15" offered to us lowly civilians. I'm pretty sure that the LEO/military rifles are still rollmarked with "AR15" with whichever model added in. (Govt Carbine, Tactical Carbine etc...) I have also heard that Colt will never again offer a rifle to us lowly civilians with the "AR15" rollmark, even if the AWB does go away. |
| what Spectre said is true, BUT !! i have a very influential friend who knows some Colt big shots & he is trying to convince Colt they need to restart the "AR-15" series once more..., but the last word i got was the current operators at Colt are the "new breed" & not likely to change their "PC" ways, they are afraid of the political climate...!!!!! |
| While in the rest of the country it might not matter (Cali banned all AR 15 types, and other states don't seem to care), Connecticut went out and banned all Colt AR 15s and Sporters, but said nothing about the Match Targets. Go figure. So unless you have grandfathered the thing in and registered it with the state, you can't have a Colt with an AR 15 roll mark. |
It was the 89 ban that drove the change in anticipation of what became the 94 ban. |
