I am going to be purchasing a Colt Gov. Carbine within the next few weeks and just need someone to tell me the skinny on these nice rifles, if there is one. i.e. I am looking at 2 for sale now, both are NIB 6520's although one looks grey, and the other black. The grey also has a different front takedown pin (bigger and looks like a flathead screwdriver is needed). Is any on of these better or more valuable than the other? Also will the 6520 accept standard uppers like the ones currently made by Bushmaster? Did all 6520's have a blocked receiver? From what I gather, the going price for new ones seems to be 2300 to 3k. That sound right? Sorry for all the questions, but I am not going to rush into this purchase. Anything else I should know about the 6520? Tips? Suggestions? Thanks.

sorry i can't give anymore info on the other questions, but you will not regret it.
yes, that price range seems right, and yet, the Colt Carbine has sold for even less. what is the world coming to?

R00zter, The grey model with the large screw pin is the one you want as this feature is consistant on green label preban AR15A2's. You can addapt a offset pin to replace the front "LARGE" screw pin for the use of a Military upper receiver if you wish to upgrade to a M4gery project in future needs should change. 2300.00 is an excellent price for the Govt Carbine as NIB units are pushing the 3k mark.  I have both the 6420 and 6520 , but prefer the 6420 A1 sites and brass deflector which was issued in later models.  have fun and enjoy that carbine.

The grey, large hole 6520 is a Green label,
while the blacker(really dark grey) one is
probably a Blue label. In general, but there
are exceptions, the greens have large pivots,
unblocked, and no fence. The blues have small
pivots, are blocked, and have raised fences.
The small hole will make it easier to add a
new upper if desired. Price is about average.

One more time my lurking has revealed good information!  I had not realized these Colt AR's had gone up to this level. (since I have two preban Colt's this is good!)

I have a nice old SP1, 16" brl, colapsible stock, seen lots of use but 100% operational.

Also a "Lightweight Sporter" 16" skinny brl, fixed A2 stock, about 98% condition.

Both are very trustworthy!
