Hi again. Over the weekend I got to handle a somewhat beat-up M17, but satisfied my curiosity. I talked to the owner, who has competed in timed matches with non-regulation AR-15s. He said skill and practice were the main requirements for someone just getting involved in timed competitions. As far as weapon mods, until one is "elite", the only mods he felt were crucial was optics and a compensator. Optics for quick sight aquisition and compensator to keep the barrel steady for quick follow-up shots. Maybe a sling, too.
Anyway, he had no experience with a compensated bullpup weapon. I've noticed that Kurt's does offer this type of mod. Could I possibly get some feedback from anyone who has used one on an M17? The proximity of the compensator doesn't make a distracting muzzle blast, does it? I know 5.56mm aren't heavy recoil to begin with, so would you think they are worth it? Whether I decide to begin attending competitions or not, if compensators are beneficial, I'd like to have one installed.
Thanks in advance!
