I have the V-Match 16 carbine also, with a Aimpoint CompML red dot, non fluted barrel.
Like my Varminter the free floating hard guard was slightly canted to one side, but that has no affect on the accuracy of either rifle. It is purely a cosmetic issue, it affect accuracy NONE...
The Varminter will shoot 5 shot groups @ 100 (& 200) yards, in one hole...all hits touching each other. (I am using a Leupold Vari-X III, 3.5 - 10x40 mm Long Range M3) Awesome rifle and scope.
(just make sure you spend the money on good rings, I am using the Mark 4 rings)
My V-Match carbine, using Winchester Q3131 ammo (.55gr) will shoot groups the size of a quarter at 100 yards.
The V-Match and Varminter are well worth the bucks!
Go FOR IT!!
