I bought one for a friend of mine, and it arrived and I mounted it up in the Vortex mount, today.
-The zoom ring turns very smoothly. I love it. -The diopter turns a bit too easily, but then, I think the one on my Kahles did, too. -The glass is out of this world for a sub-$300 USD scope! I could see .223 bullet holes on white paper against a dark (shady) background on an over-cast rainy day. I am very impressed! However, there is a bit of a warm/rose colored tint to it, I thought. -The adjustments, I am not a fan of. They were mostly auditory, and for all the world it seemed like the L/R adjusted the U/D also. I sighted it in like a red-dot. "crank on it until shit works, and then don't touch it again". That worked well. I shot a 6-shot 1.6 MOA group at 100 yards with it using 75gr Gold Dot and my friend's PSA button-rifled 16.1" upper with USGI style/non-FF handguards. Not shabby, I thought. -The weight is impressive. You hear that Razor HD2? You hear that?! -The illumination really wasn't shabby! A lot of "wasted light" was present inside the tube, but it didn't manifest as glare or light scattering. It just came out the occular. Really, the reticle does a damn good impersonation of Kahles' illumination, to be honest. I think Jeff Huber would kindof shuffle his feet and mumble if he saw it. -The 1x is pretty darn near 1x. About like my Nightforce. The FOV was pretty darn good on both 1 and 6x, as well, and quite frankly, the eyebox ain't shabby! All in all, I think it's the best $300 I've spent to put glass on a rifle that involved magnification. Foibles: The illumination wouldn't turn off even on the "0" setting until I fiddled with it and shot the rifle a lot. Even now, I am curious if it truly turns completely off. The reticle is pretty darn bold, so even if this craps out, Vortex will warranty it, and my friend won't be SOL without the illumination. On something like a Leupold MK6 or other FFP scope, I would throw an absolute shit fit about this kind of illumination knob performance. At this price-point though, and with this bold of a reticle, "if it breaks or drains batteries, we will deal with it later". Anyway, friend was super pumped about it. Him and his wife are expecting another kid, and he's feeling pretty broke lately, so it really made his day to have a good scope on his carbine for our Thanksgiving deer hunt. Thanks, Vortex, for putting out a bargain-basement priced optic that is still extremely functional and to be frank, damn impressive! |
