Looking at the PST for an AR platform. I would like a scope that has some room to grow (will probably go onto a 308 at some point). Most likely it will be on the AR for awhile.
200-500 yards, don't care about weight - punching paper only. Choices below. 6-24x50 4-16x50 2.5-10x32 6-24x50 4-16x50 2.5-10x44 1-4x24 1-4x24 |

I run a 4-16x50 SFP on my coyote rifle and it does VERY well for groups, and still not too much magnification to actually hunt with it. I think 4-16x is a good magnification range for a precision AR, but 6-24x is cool if you're not worried about the 6x top end being too much.
If you have the scratch, and don't mind the wait or the WEIGHT (3 lbs), the Razor HD II 3-18x will probably ruin you on other scopes for lifeā¦I have the 1-6x and it's insane how clear it is. |

My objective is paper targets.
No need for fast acquisitions - im not fast target shooting yet. Im just not there yet as far as competition classes. 200-600 yards. Sounds really fun to get into. Probably going to mount it on a single solid scope mount (not dual rings). |

Quoted: 2.5-10x32 FFP Viper PST or 4x16x44 HS-T I noticed a few of the PSTs have a larger objective ( considering the 6-16x50 also )... is it true that the advantage of a larger objective is better in low light level conditions? Are there any other benefits? The 50mm objective lens will pull more light into an optic than a 44m objective lens (as long as all other things are the same). The smaller objective lens could still be brighter than a bigger lens if the glass quality/coatings were superior in the smaller lens. |
