| I'm lucky enough to drive past the Vortex showroom every day on my way to work. I'm planning to stop by next week and compare the viper and the diamondback before making a purchase. I'll be putting it on a .308 bolt gun and use it mostly for deer hunting. I'm curious as to what the pros/cons of each are. Discuss amongst yourselves.... |

Of course, we always welcome the opinions of others but here are a few things to consider: - The Viper has a little better glass (brightness, resolustion, etc.) - The Diamondback has a slightly wider field of view than the Viper but the Viper has slightly longer eye relief (might be desireable to have on harder-recoiling rifles). - The Viper has turrets that can be easily slipped to rotate back to reference zero instead of having to remove screws to remove the turret to reference zero. - The Viper can be fitted with a custom elevation turret, while the Diamondback may not. - The Viper models will cost a little more but there are advantages to choosing that model. Either scope you choose will suit general hunting applications very well. I hope this helped but please let me know if there's anythign else we can do for you. We would be happy to help. |

That's the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks! so which did you choose? I am interested in the 2.5-10x44 viper hs for my 308. But also looking to get the best bang for the buck; i have a cheapo 100 dollar scope on there now that is 10 years old so almost anything is an upgrade. however the 3.5-10x50 diamond back for 250 is a good deal also, the down side is the 1 inch tube |
