I got a question for you Sam.  I have a couple different products of yours and I absolutely love them.  Of my scopes I own from Vortex, I want to paint my Diamondback and a couple of my Viper PSTs and was wondering if I were to paint them and drop them in the oven at 250 Degrees F for two hours, would I damage anything in the scope?  And I am guessing this would void your awesome warranty?  Thanks in advance.

I don't have any Vortex scopes that I plan on cerakoting but I am glad to see you responding to those that do.  I have a Vortex riflescope, binoculars and a spotting scope and am happy with all of them.  You guys are good people.

I have a few Vortex products but I'm not considering coating them, just wondering what the answer was to the oven question was?

I don't think putting them in an oven at 250F is going to hurt the scope. We actually bake them in an oven anyway to out-gas greases and solvents so they don't condense on internal lenses, and also to cure any thread lockers or epoxies used. It's just that the temperature we are using is a bit less than 250F.

When I talked with my techs about it they told me they thought it would still be fine though. The only warning they gave was if there were any rubber parts on the scope (magnification ring grip, or eyecups) to make sure that nothing was pressing against them when the scope was being baked or they would become deformed. For example, you wouldn't want the rubber part resting on the metal grate in your oven. The other thing they said is that possibly some of the grease could melt and pool in some of the mechanical components, so things like the turrets and the magnification rings might get dry not turn as smoothly.
