Does anyone have any info on how Vortex SPARC and Strikefire compare to the Aimpoint brand in durability and operational tests and craftsmanship?

ETA: I have the SPARC on the way from SPG.

vortex is an economical alternative to aimpoint.  with that, a lot of shooters love their vortex strikefires and sparcs.  think of it this way, if you like the strikefire/sparc, you can swoop up an aimpoint if you like that particular style of rds.

I just got mine today and will take out tomorrow after work. It looks very well made, and you cannot beat the warranty. I did notice when you co-witness with the  BUIS the dot is lot more clearer, and it pretty brite.

I shot it on 8/13/10 with Wolf 55 grain on a really windy day, and I only had to adjust it once. I did notice that it blurs/starburst a little (is that normal), but if you co-witness it goes away. The dot is pretty damn brite. It works for me.

Starburst effect is pretty common on all red dots. A lot of people I've heard like to run them just bright enough for conditions. That seems to reduce the start burst effect. If you have any astigmatism in your eyes that will also cause the dot to blur/starburst, or appear to have a strange shape.

So in short, it's pretty much normal, you might want to turn it down just a tad though and see if that helps, at least for your longer range shooting. For CQB stuff it really shouldn't matter as the dot is just a quick aiming point. Hope this helps!

I have both the T-1 Micro Aimpoint and the SPARC (just got it).

I like the SPARC a lot - it is a very affordable alternative and if you want something to help you hone your skills or have multiple rifles, you can get 3-4 of these for the price of one Micro and mount.  The extras with the SPARC are a nice addition.  I actually like the the controls of the SPARC better than the Micro, though with the battery life of a Micro you can just leave it on all the time for years and not have to mess with the controls.

As for the starburst, sometimes people with astigmatism see it too even on the lower power settings - best way to get over it is to not concentrate on the dot and just sort of "phase out" your eyes and concentrate on the target.

Love my SPARC.  I run it at a 45 degree angle on in front of my ACOG, as a reflex backup.  Tis a very good alternative to the RMR or Burris FastFire size as a reflex , as well as the Aimpoint Micro.  The main reason I went with it was because of the night vision setting, and CQB wise it is nice when shooting with PVS14's
