I was looking at a random collection of bullets and powders and decided to do something about it. I have a bag of 120gr Nosler BT blems I bought for my grendel. I used one bag testing them for that gun and then quickly lost interest because, to be honest, a moderate velocity gun that shoots mediocre groups isn't a lot of fun. I also had a few cans of Varget sitting around from when I was loading for 308. Logically the only choice was two combine the two for an unlikely combination. I also decided, due to the fact my range time is limited to my lunch break at work when our range isn't rented out, that I would give this 10 round load development concept a try, except I did two of each charge weight with the intent of averaging the two out. Nosler's data suggests 40.0 is the max charge weight of Varget, Hodgdon says 39.0 and Hornady's info is useless as they group the 120/123 class bullets in with the 130 and have a max charge of 37.1, which I can't see doing any good. Usually Hodgdon's data is sporting so I was surprised to see it lower than Nosler's, and decided to split the difference. I made 10 loads working backwards from 39.5 (except for where I forgot subtraction near the end) and these are the results (listed from smallest to biggest since that's how I shot them as to not blow my face off). 37.8: 2784 38.0: 2792 38.2: 2800 38.3: 2815 38.5: 2812 38.7: 2830 38.9: 2846 39.1: 2851 39.3: 2867 39.5: 2896 Zero pressure signs at 39.5 and it sounds like a pepper shaker, not anywhere close to full. I'd like to go higher and see what happens. Other load data, 1x fired Hornady brass, FL resized with a .005 shoulder bumper using a 287 bushing in a Redding Type S with no expander ball. BR-2 primer. Roughly 50 degrees in fog. Its my understanding I'm looking for a flat spot in the velocities to find the node. I was thinking of trying 39.0 and seeing how it does... Thoughts? View Quote Quick Load states the 120 with 39.5gr of Varget should produce 2813fps at 2.800 OAL with 54985psi. Setting the depth shorter increases psi (obviously). 40grs is 56981 psi at 2844, 40.5grs is 59048 psi at 2876fps and right at Max pressure, any higher or lower seating depth is over pressure. |

All Atlas here.
Have been wanting to try a tripod for a while but a decent one is pricey. Hows the job search? |

I just got the new Atlas CAL. I plan to use it with the RRS mount for ARCA rail.

View Quote Just got a new Induro CT113 Carbon Fiber legs set for $125 and previously bought a like new aluminum induro with 35lb load rating for $90. Manfrotto is nice for heads. Have used the 322rc2s which are popular here, but they are much less stable and harder to use than the magnesium ball heads like the 054. I can put a 20lb rifle in a saddle on the 054 and it won't sag at all. Is also easier to get on target. Could never get that with several 322 heads. |

Looks like HH6 is kicking me out of the house today so she can putt around and do whatever. Maybe I'll break out the .260 and take it to the 100y range to confirm zero for the season and do some testing of the Target Vision and test the two TQs to see if there's any perceptible shift. Standby...

We've all had days like that!
I was invited to check out a private range EARLY tomorrow. They have distance to a mile but I need to practice closer. I was informed there's a good spot for targets at 1200 which is longer than I have shot. Will see how it goes. Haven't shot the .260 in months, hopefully it isn't mad at me |

Larue 260 Barrel sale!
No PST though according to the pic's. Although 7.62 barrels on sale have it? An 18" would be fun to try but the 22 with PST for the TQ works so well! |
