UPS delivered my MOE fixed stock today so I can finish making my 7.62 TOBR California legal..... Went to slip it on and the LaRue buffer tube is about one-quarter inch too long for it to work..... The extra length on the adjustment section (6 way) is just long enough to block half the hole the locking screw has to go through... Grrrr!!!!!

But wait, I also got my VLTOR 5 position adjustable buffer tube for the Field Grade barrel AR-10 build in the same shipment. Yay! Uh,wait a minute, it's a full inch shorter than the LaRue buffer tube...... Drat, drat, and double drat!!!!!!

The LaRue came with the red spring and H-2 buffer. I have a Tubbs flat wire spring for an AR-10, and a Wolff extra power spring for an A-15. I also have an H-1 buffer...... What combination of parts should I use to make this work reliably????

Just remembered, the wife thought Texas was an acceptable place to live. Can't argue with that!!!!!

I knew that comment was coming..... Yes, I think about it every day. Won't be able to leave until I retire 2020-2022 ish..... By then we will have at least two more Grandkids making it even harder to get the wife to leave.... I will say though, everytime we go back to Missouri she likes it more and more and California less and less......

Problem is her son went to boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood in the summer. He may never step foot back in that state again....... Her daughter lived there for 6 months once, didn't like it too much either. But I still keep praying!!!!!!

Is the MOE Fixed stock for a Carbine or an A2 length tube?  Sounds like you got an A2 fixed stock for a carbine length buffer tube.

Return stock and get the correct Moe Fixed for Carbine stock?

Got the fixed stock for a carbine buffer tube. Been so long since I have seen an A-2 buffer tube, I don't remember what they look like any more.... Also, it seems to me i read somewhere that LaRue used an A2 length tube with a spacer in it. This buffer tube has no spacer in it...

This isn't the original buffer tube, I had one that was out of spec, had a lot of slop in the RAT stock.... If it ever had a spacer in it, LaRue left it out when they swapped the buffer tube. Either way, the rifle has run flawlessly unsuppressed. Living in Cali, I have not been able to run it suppressed. So no complaints whatsoever with the rifle....

FYI, the red spring is the shortest of the three springs I have. The extra power spring seems to be the stiffest. The tubbs spring is the longest, but I don't know if it will be the stiffest once compressed..... May try it with an H-1 buffer

Ok, installed the VLTOR buffer tube and Moe fixed stock. Installed the Tubbs spring and an H buffer. (Seems I ordered the wrong part.)
Hand cycled 10 rounds through it, worked fine, no coil bind. Installed the original Red spring and H2 buffer. Cycled 10 rounds by hand, no coil bind, seemed like less pressure required to cycle the rounds. Left it like that and installed a standard mag release button as this is now a featureless rifle.....

First mag button had threads that felt stiff and had a very stiff spring, replaced it with the other button and spring I had and it works fine now. Need to order a new mag release button and spring for the last rifle to be converted to featureless.... Maybe my muzzle brake and the mag button will make it about the same time!

Still need to take the TOBR and 6.8 out to see if their scopes are still on target. Will need to move the one on the TOBR forward about an inch or put a slip on butt pad to increase the length of pull. Can't really move the 6.8 scope forward enough, definately need a pad for it....

What are you using for a grip?

ETA:  Also, Magpul makes an extended butt pad

Why are you changing the stock? All three of my LT rifles are CA compliant (for now) and all have the RAT stock that came with them. The only differences between a free state AR and CA compliant is Bullet Button and overall length must be 30" (reason for the stupid looking 4" brake on my Tavor). MA (and a few other commie states) requires a fixed stock and no flash hider and a brake must be pinned so you can't take the bark off and have a threaded barrel.

And yes, before you ask why I have homes in two of the worst 2A states, I will be leaving CA and MA in the next few years. I am lucky enough to have property and a NFA trust in TX

CA compliant is different than CA featureless.

To be compliant after the NEW laws take effect, you will either need to register your (formerly) CA compliant rifle, -OR- make it CA featureless and avoid registration.

Have the magpul extended pad on all three AR's. I am using the Monsterman grips, rattlecanned to match, or close enough anyway.....

If I move the scope forward on the 7.62 TOBR, everything will be fine. Will have a natural move to get a full, clear picture through the scope. The 6.8 doesn't have enough room to move it quite enough for it to be natural, I have to make myself move my head back until the butt is barely touching my shoulder. The extended pad helped alot, but wasn't quite enough. I can get a slip on butt pad like I have on my .30-30 and it makes the lenght of pull perfect.

That will be the only weapon I need to do it on as the third AR now has a red dot on it.... I pulled the EOTech and 3X magnifier off and mounted it on a previously registered AR. I could have left the EOTech on it, but the magnifier would have been useless unless I added a slip on butt pad for it too...... May do it later anyway. I still need to pull everything off the upper and retorque the barrel nut, so no sighting that one in until then..... I might even hold off on that until I can afford a free float handguard and a new flip up front sight for it.... The Troy drop in "Battle Rails" are nice, but free float is really the only way to go!!!! All it takes is lots of cash to do these things.... I need Free float handguards for two AR-15's and one for an AR-10...... One AR-10 has one, and one AR-15 has one....
