Hi all, Finally picking up my new 7.62 tOBR from my FFL on Monday. Purchased it from a member here (collin_f). Excellent experience. I finally saw it for the first time today. Would like to know what other owners are using for glass. My shooting distances will be no longer than 600 yards. Budget is secondary. Would like to keep it no more than the devalue of the tOBR. I have two different USO Scopes that I like but know there are lots of new choices out there today. My local dealers are really lacking in high end brands so that is not an option. Thanks in advance. Do you like the vortex? I heard they are really nice and the company has great CS. Do you like the 4x-16? I was thinking I would like a 3x lower end but am open to suggestions. One if my USO scopes is a 1-4x so I can always use that for close in targets. BR, I like it so far what little I have gotten to use it.

I know what you mean...part of me says go 25x on the high end but part of me says why? I just can't see needing that kind of magnification at 600 yds. Although the new BEAST interests me quite a bit. Would like to see as many of these as possible before I buy. BR,

It is hard to beat USO. I have the SN-3 Tpal (3.2x17) and an SN-4. I will be selling the SN-3 to a close friend who wants an upgrade. Although I have nothing but good things to say about USO, I don't know how they are today. I purchased both of mine in 1999 and 2000 from John Jr himself. I have heard that reliability is not so good. Don't know what you guys think. I want something with a larger objective than my SN-3 to help with clarity at low light conditions and improve the exit pupil. What I do love about the new Gen 2 HD from Vortex is the reticle/price. It seems pretty sweet. Downside is weight. The weight in an of itself is not an issue but I worry about how it may affect the balance of the rifle. If I had a 20" barrel and longer hand guard, I don't think it would be an issue. Thanks for all the great suggestions. BR, Nik H

I've used about everything across multiple lives ... However, for the money, all my rifles that wear long range glass are wearing NF (NXS, ATACR and BEAST) ... I think they're all fantastic. My only further comment is that the 34mm tubes are worth it in my opinion.

For those who've used multiple high-end scope brands, what are the opinions on the 1st vs 2nd focal plane reticules given NF are almost all 2nd FP?
For instance, can someone comment on their experience using one of the big NF scopes (ATCAR or NXS) and comparing them to a USO (3.2-17, or 5-25) or Leupold mk 6 3-18? I understand the information available online regarding the differences, so I'm looking for subjective opinions based on actual use. Primary use (most frequent) would be shooting known distances at paper and steel (100-1000 yrds). Secondary use (according to time spent) would be hunting at unknown distances. OP - I hope I'm not highjacking your thread and this information would be useful to you as well. If it isn't, let me know and I'll remove the post. |

No problem with your question. More information is better than less. I wouldn't consider an SFP because of the complexity of the conversions. I like the fact that an FFP allows me to quickly dial in the holdover or wind drift adjustments at any magnification. A side benefit is ranging capability although that is not as important for those that have a dedicated rangefinder. BR,

I peraonally feel that unless the ffp chages the recticle into a useful short range option (leupold tmr-d), that scopes in the compact range ffp is not needed.
Be honest how many here are going to be tactical milling at 3x? It seems half the time the ffp makes the lower powers less useful. |
