any issue with mounting a larue sling attach point to the forward side rail on the OBR.  Generally, i think the further back the sling is the better off the rail will be.  
any thoughts on this

thats where mine is.  its about the only way to mount one unless you put it at the 6 o clock position on the handguard.  no issues for me, but i do wish i had the option to move it back further.  if the .308 OBR had the same handguard rail options as a 5.56, that would be pretty neat.

I used their padded sling coupled with a VTac mounting point a member here sent me for free when I had the same question a year ago.

It is mounted to my top rail near the front of my scope and puts a QD swivel near the center of the gun.

Works 10x better than the front rail position did.

This is how mine is set up but, I used an IWC QD Sling attachment to mount on the top rail.
