For me 6 years for me only taken 2 deer so far: a doe 3 yrs a go, and my first buck last year. I tend to let lots of deer pass for ethical reasons of my choosing...
2 years ago I let a 8/10 point walk because based on body and coloring I guessed he was only around 2-2.5 yrs old and a perfect typical deer, if you put a mirror in the middle of his head that was the rack on the other side let him go to spread those genes about more... Saturday, I let 3 doe walk as one was momma with 2 smaller does with her, while they weren't spotted anymore its early in season, and momma is still showing them where to go what to eat in my mind, that and we are seeing about even if not more bucks than does, so I'd rather leave the does to produce a bigger herd and try to take cull bucks, and old mature deer at their peak or on the decline 4-5+ years old... Near the end of season if I still need meat to feed my family a doe will go if that's all I get to see... now when I can get glass and a can for my tOBR and hogs under the feeder at night with moonlight or a hog-light will become bacon/pork sausage meat
