I'm stuck in Denver for the 4th and you know what? These yanks have never heard of shiner! Darn yanks! While it isn't Shiner, New Belgium Brewery is just up the road in Ft. Collins and they have a nice sampler you can try out at the bar in the brewery. Happy 4th to everyone! |

Someone told me earlier tonight that the 4th of July is a stupid holiday and we shouldn't celebrate. I had to really bite my tongue hard not to yell at him. Happy 4th, guys. When I was a young boy, I really didn't understand to the fullest what the 4th of July really stood for. My grandfather served in WWII and Korea and from a young age he told me about what the 4th stood for, our flag and our nation's history. I didn't realize what it all really meant until after joining the Marine Corps, and it was further solidified after Desert Storm. It was then I realized what sacrifices many other's made so that we could all be free, and make the most insulting of comments like the one above. If I were still that young Marine and heard him say that I would have given him one of the worst Drill Instructor verbal beat-downs with spattle flying through the air. Now as an older and hopefully wiser Marine (Ret.) I would have educated him as exactly why we celebrate this holiday, and honor those that gave everything to give us our freedom from tyranny. I would have asked him why he felt it was stupid, then I would have given him some history highlights and reminders of our nation's history and examples of our mistakes which we are destined to repeat if we ignore our history. I ask that all of you go out today and remind our young ones what today really stands for. If you happen to be present when the National Anthem is played, make sure they cover their heart, face the flag and aren't playing grab ass with friends and family. I get choked up every time Old Glory is presented and our National Anthem is played, with some luck maybe your young ones will do the same after you teach them. Have a great 4th everyone, be safe and say a prayer for the rest of our men and women so that they return home safely! Semper Fi USMC |

My favorite Shiner is Shiner 99.
Happy Independence Day to all, especially my ative and veteran brothers. My family has a rich heritage serving our country. I stood my watch 1979-83. My dad was in Viet Nam, My Grand dad and two great uncles were in WWII. My flag is out, the grill is ready, the kids are coming over and the weather is agreeable. This will be a great day! |

John Adams:
I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. Amen and thanks! and how the Obamanators celebrate...sad commentary of the hateful left Register and Vote to stop the tyranny! |
| As others have said, take time to register and vote your conscience this November. Don't sit back and let someone else decide for you. Make use of the right to vote, a right that countless veterans and current military members have safeguarded through the years. |
