Would it be possible to install a 9.0 handguard on a 14.7 inch barrel with mid-length gas, without completely removing the front sight base and pinned muzzle device?  I understand that the FSB will get in the way, and the taper pins would have to be removed.  I was trying to figure out if it could be done by sliding the FSB as far forward as possible, removing the gas tube,  then installing all the parts in sequence including the rail.  As far as installation of the gas tube, I figure the FSB could be rotated to the side, then moved back into place.  Can it be done?

the fsb will get in the way of the larue hand guard nut. There is not much clearance when you slide it over the barrel. You need to remove the gas block.

Nope

All barrel nuts are the same interior diameter. If you can get your existing nut off, then you should be able to get another one (eg LaRue) on. My guess is that you will not be able to.

No

The barrel nut has to go down the barrel.  Can be done with a low profile
gas block but not an FSB.
