First it would be easier if this were for my rifle but it is not.  Helping a friends wife order a mount for her husband for Christmas.

What I do know about rifle....
1.  DPMS Panther LRT-SASS .308 with BUIS
Link to gun

2.  Scope:  Vortex Viper PST 30mm tube and 50mm objective, 4" eye relief.

He has owned gun and scope for about a year and has never been shot becuase he has never gotten around to figuring out what mount is needed.  I am familiar with regular AR platform but not the .308 guns and since it's receiver's top rail is higher and longer than a standard .223 AR I know he doesn't need a mount that high.

I'm thinking a scope centerline height of 1.44" like the LT158 but don't think the 10MOA built in is needed.  Is there enough room on upper to go with two rings instead of a one piece base?  Not sure if the eye relief will cause issues with a set of rings.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The LT158 is what he needs.  Don't ovr think the 10 MOA, having an extra 10 MOA is not a bad thing it just there if you need it.

I have two Vortex Viper PSTs in LaRue mounts, one in the LT-123 for the bolt gun (tried it with an LT-104 but it sat too high) and another in LT-111.

The LT-111 will be going on my OBR Heavy when it arrives. I like OBR mount ring placement since it allows you to move the optic back farther if you have a long length of pull. There is also another OBR mount with 20 MOA built in, the LT-112. The OBR mounts do put the centerline a bit higher at 1.535".

I would think with 2 piece rings you would be easier to customize to account for eye relief and to keep both rings on the receiver.

Will you want to have BUIS on rifle too?

Thanks for the replies.  I like the LT111 and LT112 myself but don't think it is needed with the use and user of this gun in mind plus I think more room for long eye relief scopes would be a must(he is ~6'2").  Not to mention she will probably shit at the $200 price tag of the LT158.  Honestly he has no need for LT quality as this will be a range toy that probably will not get shot much nor will scope ever come off, I just know he wants the best even if overkill.

It looks like the LT158 should do the trick.  Personally I would want 10 or 20 MOA built into my mount but for novice shooters that have no interest in LR shooting I'd rather him have the scope parallel to bbl but not a big deal.  Any other advice is welcomed.  Thanks.
