Hi, everyone, I'm new here, and a 'Dillo Dust addict... (I was told there were quite a few others here, equally addicted...) 
I know that if I were to order a bottle or two (more like a hundred) of my addiction, that Mr. LaRue might see fit to throw in a Stealth upper as a side gift... The question I have for you is the following: I like the light weight and short length of an 16" M4 carbine, but the longer barrel / slightly longer range of an 20" A2. Thus, I feel I should probably beg and plead that they throw in an 18" or 16" barrel with 13.2" handguard with my apocalyptic preparation-sized order of 'Dust... What say you, oh fellow 'dust addicts? |

I shoot for recreational / professional purposes... Shooting relaxes me. Dump all the mental turnoil at the door / gate to the range, and focus on the fundamentals of marksmanship. Reap the rewards of gnat's ass-sized shot groups, the ringing of a gong, or a dropping Ivan. It doesn't hurt that I've been paid to shoot (or at least be very ABLE to do so) for going on 20 years now...
Long distance, short distance, combat maneuver course, I've done them all, and I like them all about the same, which is to say ALOT. I guess I'm trying to find a happy medium that will allow me to transition from CQB to MR to LR, in any order... Right now, I would say that I am at the CQB / Medium Range stage, using an EOTech w/ Aimpoint magnifier on an LT-110 or Troy Irons on a S&W M&P 15, 16" barrel. Aside from an accurized upper, my next purchase(s) will likely include a QD-mounted scope of some sort. I'd like to be able to go to a backyard range, pop off the EO / scope, and shoot the irons until they melt. Find a KD range nearby, drop the irons, slap on the Mil-Dot reticle, and play some AT&T poker. Or, find someplace I can go through my MOUT drills, and drop on the EO. I know enough to know that I don't know it all. That said, I am aware that 5.56 / .223 is not the only bullet out there, there are other calibers that fly farther, punch bigger holes in whatever you're shooting at, I got it... 5.56 is what I know for now, and I think I'll be safer sticking with what I know and improving from there, before I venture into the realm of the "exotics". The reason I'm considering the Stealth is three-fold: One, as best as I can gather, it's made for tack-driving. Sub-MOA accuracy is a big plus. I don't fancy myself a sniper, but if I perform all the basic fundamentals correctly and consistently, I would like to do so on a platform that will reward me with consistently tight groups, regardless of range. Punching the same hole three or more times just gives me goosebumps... Two, I realize that the PredatARs and OBRs are the preferred platform, but I don't really have the $$$ difference at the moment. Three, aside from using it for recreational purposes, I'd like to know that when some idiot kicks in my door looking for trouble, I'm going to be able to oblige him, and then some. I know there are other manufacturers out there, with some fine "cross-breed" weapons of their own, but I would say that LaRue has earned my trust with their commitment to customer satisfaction and to building a quality product. Well, all that AND I really like the Dillo Dust...

What say you, oh fellow 'dust addicts? What are you considering long range? What type of groups are you hoping for at distance? I've got a 18" Stealth and I can consistently ring the gongs at 100, 200 and 300 yards... Not sure what my groupings are out that far, because I'm too lazy to run back and fourth to check/swap targets... Thats one of the reasons I like the gongs, that and the cool sound when you nail it.  I've also got a 12" Stealth (On a pistol lower for now) and Iron sights, that I can hit the gongs with as well... At least at the 100 and 200... I don't remember trying the 3 now that I think about it... These damn Stealth uppers have way more potential for accuracy than I do as the shooter behind it, thats for sure. |

I guess I should clarify myself... Happens sometimes...
CQB is pretty obvious, if you're close enough for me to see the whites of your eyes... Medium range, I can tell that you are armed and headed my way (100-200) Long range, pretty much 300m out to MER. What I remember from Basic eons ago is the M16 (20" barrel) is MER at 550/800, and the M4 (16") is MER out to about 500/600, IIRC. If I need to drop something much further than that, I have no delusions about needing a bigger gun... |
